Looking to pick up a nice blade or two.  Sort of a gift to myself after getting through one hell of a past month. Looking for a nicer folder and possibly a fixed blade.

For the folder, I’m looking closely Zero Tolerance. I’m also interested in medium to higher end blades like Strider or other not as main stream brands. Any suggestions welcome.

For fixed blades, I’ve been looking at Flagrant Beard and Bradford for a while. I could also commission another custom blade from a friend in TN. I’ve posted pics of his work here. I have a nice Damascus one, but I’m thinking something more basic.
I had an xm18 but sold it. Zt collab is almost half the price and same quality. Only thing i miss is the longer stonewashing actual hinderers get.
I have a hinderer design zt0562cf for sale. New in box. Have 2 of em and keeping the one i had reground to .01"
Its my most recommended zt.
Also have a hinderer design 0392wc, 0452cf, 0909, 770cfm390, and i think a 0095 available still. All new. I have a new discontinued 0160 fixed blade too. Pm for prices or if you want to see any

For work I have the CRKT m16 and beat the crap out of it. For a nice clothes I have a CRKT ken onion that's really pointy and thin. Can't remember the name though but the steel is excellent. I also got the Ken Onion Work Sharp belt sharpener and use it for everything. Excellent tool that gets tons of use, especially when the kitchen knives get banged up.
I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

That model looks good. I was also looking at the 801TI.

Do you have a classified ad with those listed?

I have a couple of CRKT knives and they are pretty good. One of my favorites is the M21-14SF.

Anyone got recommendations on a place that sells knife parts or could give me some information.

I have a Kershaw Sapphire and the screws holding the body together fell out and are gone.
Its a discontinued model so Kershaw doesn't have parts

Anyone know where I can find screws that small,  or have spares or possibly know what size screws I'm looking for?

I know I could just buy a new one,  but it was cheap, $20, probably because it was getting discontinued and I should have gotten 2, but I like the size of it and haven't really seen anything else that has caught my eye

Is the folder going to be edc?
I'm partial to Boker and CRKT
CRKT are affordable and functional. Boker can get better quality.
My favorite EDC is the Boker Wildcat karambit style flipper. It's easily concealed, ball bearing is super smooth, feels like assisted opening but it's not, D2 blade is good too.
My other EDC are CRKT M16 14z tanto, and Fox tactical tanto. What I carry depends what I'm wearing.

I've seen some great blades lately from Fox knives and Lionsteel, but most of those are out of my price range.
I just ordered a CRKT Ruger and Boker Masada, I'll post pics when they come in

The folder can be an EDC. I have plenty of decent (Kershaw and older or less expensive Benchmades) to pretty good (newer Benchmades) for regular EDC. This one, I want something nicer. Kinda like splurging on a nice bottle of whiskey now and then, but still appreciate your “usuals”. That’s why I kinda wanted something a little nicer and less mainstream. Kinda like how you’d notice a Colt Python over say a Ruger SP101. Great to have both, but one definitely nicer, but still very much functional and useful.

Love myself a 4" blade with a scandi grind, Aussie wood is so damn hard so a nice sharp wood biased grind is the go, also like esee and falkniven but my goto at the moment is a mors garberg in stainless, can use and abuse without the price tag of expensive knives

I refuse to spend more than $70 on any EDC item.  Because if you lose it then you're going to be pissed.  If you need to use it to open stuff, don't want to damage a $500 knife (opening paint can).

I lost my Streamlight Protac 1L and was glad it only cost me $50 and it wasn't the $250 one I wanted.  Also for the price, I could have bought another rifle/pistol.

ZT's are awesome.  I bought my groomsmen ZT's for their gift.  Sexy knives.  Like Kershaws but better ;-)

That's why you carry more than one knife.  A beater for daily tasks and one for self defense.  I guess it all comes down to how well you take care of your shit.  I still have my first pair of Oakleys that I bought with my first paycheck in 1998.  Those suckers turned 20 years old.  My wife however can't keep a pair of sunglasses for more than a few years, her record was losing some Maui Jim's I bought her in 2 months.

So if you can take care of a nice knife, treat yourself.  If you can't, stick to cheap ones.

isn't ZT the professional line of Kershaw?  thought I read that somewhere.

for EDC I like to have a few options:
flipper
ball bearing pivot
3-4 inch blade.  could be smaller or bigger, but in general 3-4 inches is good for me for EDC
a nice functioning pocket clip.  has to be not too tight as to hinder a draw, but tight enough to have retention, but most times I carry it inside the pocket without the clip on the pocket. also like to have the clip able to hook well to my belt, although I don't carry it this way that often.
G10, aluminum, or similar grip
not too much if any serrations on the blade. I like a tanto or a spearpoint type blade for edc
not sure yet of what type of steel I prefer, but I'm liking D2 steel lately, but i'm not that knowledgeable about what type of steel is good for what

Me too. I lost a lot of nice knives so I just carry cheap folders now.

Which is not to say I don't own or appreciate a fine blade.
One of my prized possessions is a Mayo tanto that he custom built for me.

I’ve been wanting to try a ZT blade for a while. Just never felt the “need” to go ahead and get one. I have plenty of good quality blades already, including many Kershaws. You can get me a ZT for my birthday next year.  ;D

Someone here got the point... actually on many levels.

I generally treat my stuff well. Of course they are tools, at least in this context, and I’ll use them as such. That said, I don’t baby them. I still do value higher quality stuff and certainly appreciate them. Yeah, many times a more value level item can do the same, but another point here was to treat myself to something nice.

I also tend to hold onto my stuff as long as I can. They become a rotation of “nicer” stuff and then become “beaters”. At least that’s how it’s been with stuff like watches. I still have a watch from college days and still runs well and use for when I envision getting more wear and tear. But I generally buy good quality stuff and they usually last if you take care of them.

Over the years, I’ve used a bunch. My general preferences now are:
Tip up carry (just the tip  ;D )
Drop or spear point
No concave section
Generally avoid serrated sections, but to have a few with them. (Depends on use)
I don’t pay that much attention to the steel composition, but will look into them before buying. I do have a variety of them though. Even some custom high carbon knives that I swear will corrode if you leave a finger print on them for more than a few days.
I like different handle textures. Mostly varying in how I’m dressed. Some of the more aggressive texture knives tear up my work pants.

I’ve heard of Fallkniven from a Kiwi friend.

I have a couple of ESEE fixed knives and they are built like tanks. I don’t do much camping or bushcraff stuff. At least these days. The ESEE was great for when I did more outdoor type stuff when I lived in WA state.

Someone once told my ZT was started by the “best guys” at Kershaw who started their own thing. That gave the blades a sort of “elite” aura. While that may have been true, just seems like a matter of collaboration with other designers and still under the larger parent company. All I really care about is if the knives are quality and ZT seems to fit in that category.

I haven’t tried Boker, but I’ve seen some of their folders and fixed that I was tempted to try. They seem generally reasonably priced. At least the ones I was looking at.

Boker has different brandings:
Boker Manufaktur Solingen which is their premium line made in Solingen Germany
Boker Arbolito made in Argentina
Boker Plus is not made in Germany.  could be in US, Europe or Asia
Magnum by Boker is their most affordable line mostly made in China

I have a couple fixed blades from Boker Arbolito.  they are well made and both came with a really nice leather sheath
