It's the job of the progressives to pretend to be socially conscious and support initiatives that never quite get poor people off the ground, while at the same time profiteering off their misery. It's the right wing's job to blame poor people for their problems despite the systems designed to keep them down, and to worship free market capitalism even though it's turned the country into a sinking ship at the hands of greedy senile elites. Everyone who isn't connected to a Clinton or Bush is being nickel and dimed into debt slavery, and at some point it will hit critical mass. At that point they hope we will be too busy fighting each other to notice them slipping away on their private jets.

"Supposedly".

Based on the rate of fire, sparks of the rounds hitting the pavement (characteristic of 7n6)  and the supposed rifle they found, which is a saiga ak74, yes; they are now saying it was an AK.

Then again....its possible that he was using an sks with steel core 762x39 and they planted this after the fact, according to conspiracy theorists.

Well, if they planted the Saiga 5.45 in order to ban it or 7n6 ammo, they are too late as the Saiga's are no longer imported due to executive orders and 7n6 ammo banned for import by the ATF.

Do we know if any concealed carry armed civilians shot at or assisted the cops in any way? I could see them using this incident and making the argument that Texas is very open to firearms but CCW didn't help.

I believe that people interested in banning gun, are ignorant or afraif of guns, and those "let love rule" types don't care what kind of gun it was.  Only those interested in the truth will care.  With so many people and MSM jumping to conclusions, so much damn speculation being parroted as truth.  Just like thanks to that dumbass "forensic expert" that appeared on FoxNews, a bolt action hunting rifle becomes an assault weapon with the addition of a scope.

From what I've gathered so far, there are those that have said that the presence of armed civilians made it more difficult for LE to distinguish "friend from foe".  That is an armed civilian with a shouldered rifle looking to "help" could have easily been viewed as a threat.  So yes, I'm sure that there are those that will make the argument that open carry didn't help the situation.  That said, need to counter those arguments with facts, which seems to be in short supply these days with the rise of speculation. 

I would imagine that that situation was very chaotic, where people weren't even sure where the shots were coming from at first.
