Yo Mauiboi9.  Are you familiar with that neighborhood?  Just wondering if it's a pretty nice area where people wouldn't expect for something like that to happen.  Was just having that kind of discussion with friends in Alaska where there was a violent home invasion in a "nicer town", where people tend to think that crime only happens in the "bad parts" of a town that is a couple of valleys over.  In our discussion, my friends were questioning why they take shooting classes and shoot often.  Those questioning them have very much adopted the "it can't happen to me" mentality.  Well, in the Alaska case, it did.

All you need is a shotgun with a few shells.  Just the sound of racking the slide will be enough. . . right?  [\sarcasm]

Sorry.  No coffee this morning. . .  ;D

Born and raised on Maui.....nothing like this.
However after I left the island after high school, I noticed that things started to change.
I observed that Maui was evolving to become another Honolulu. Not exactly, but similar.
If there were such a thing as an evolutionary timeline for islands, I would estimate Maui to be about 20 years behind Oahu.
Similarly, Kauai is about 30 or 40 years behind Oahu.

It was inevitable that big city crime would creep over to Maui.
Reading the comments, people knew who were involved and knew there was a problem.
What, Me Worry?

Its not a nice nice area. Its located pretty close to the hospital and police station in distance but as far as driving there you would have to go around, theres no direct road there. I would kinda expect this to happen in like happy valley area but not kahului. Times are changing.

A lot of these turn out to be drug related.  I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

Thanks. It's been over 5 years, but I used to have meetings in Kahului near the police station.  I didn't drive through the neighborhoods in the area much, but I don't recall it being too bad.  Though maybe I didn't venture that far.

Report/speculation that I saw was that it was a gambling house. Debt or games gone bad?
