Have an 80% that I'd like to customize, wondering if anyone has dome it here? Or is it something best sent out of state for?

Laser engraving is very shallow and will wear down quick

Yeah, I'm not looking to etch it. I mean the real machines that can go the proper depth.

There is  store in Windward mall, it is a kiosk by the food court and they will engrave anything you bring in, even knives.

I can't promise they will be thrilled if you bring in an AR lower but their machine can do it.

80% doesn't count though right? Plus, someone working on the firearm could be considered a place of repair.

Wouldn't hurt to call first.

I'm sure if it's stil stripped 80% lower or 100% completed but stripped they won't care. Key word stripped! Lol. And a knife will do more damage than a stripped lower in a fight. And if they ask just say it's or airsoft. I'm sure they won't know the difference .. Maybe...

Don't take a 100% lower stripped or not. An 80% lower is not a firearm.

An engraver should be considered a place of repair which is legal under the HRS. Same as someone who would cerakote your firearm or make a holster for it.

"should be" and is/are a place of repair are not the same Gunsmiths (places of repair) are generally type 1 FFL's. Shops that cerakote are FFL's otherwise they could not legally do your pistol since handguns can't be loaned.

I understand your reasoning but the HRS does not define a place of repair. If it said it had to be a licensed gunsmith then you would be absolutely correct but it just said place of repair. Also, if someone remained there while the lower was engraved there wouldn't be any "loan" issues.

Obviously I cannot predict what joe blow police officer would do if it became an issue but the HRS does not prohibit it.

If there is really any doubt, the owner should take the lower to the police station and ask them, then they will have been cleared with the department first.
