1873 Springfield Trapdoor - .45-70 Government
I recently acquired one of these puppies.  This rifle shoots a big ole' 45-70 round and is an example of the evolutionary step in the military's transition from muzzle loading rifles to breech loading rifles. The muzzle loaders shot a ridiculous .58 caliber ball that took limbs off when they hit.



These pics show the evolution of the rifle rounds used from the pre-Civil war era to Vietnam.  The one in the middle is what I shoot out of the Trapdoor

Those scales on the gun on the right are pricey.  I’ve been wanting to order a set.

I would think they could be cheaply (and easily) made with a  3D Printer these days.
