City approved legal fees for Kealoha to fight Baker case
« on: November 16, 2016, 03:15:55 PM »
The Star-Advertiser just reported this morning that the Honolulu City Council just approved $100,000 in attorney fees to continue to fight 2 firearms CCW cases.

$50,000 to fight the Baker case (for powerhouse Bill McCorriston's firm no less)

$50,000 to fight a case brought by Kirk C. Fisher which they report as a similar firearms case (again McCorriston's firm)

They also approved an additional $50,000 to fight two brutality cases against Hpd with lesser known firms (25,000 each case)

Apparently the City Council has a real hard-on against CCW, or any kind of carry. (We knew that already)

Too cheap to buy that rag.
Please post as I cannot find any other info regarding the states use of my taxpayer money to defend some public employee for crimes committed while under Fed investigation.  :wtf: :closed:

I'd like the City to buy me a mailbox with persistent surveillance - just in case someone wants to steal my mailbox or vandalize it. Because Federal postal laws seem so lax in Honolulu County.

Here's what I could find for free:

Apparently it's a conflict of interest to use city attorney's as Kealoha sued the city this summer for actions taken by the ethics commission.

Hawaii News Now at 9pm this evening said despite the new commission powers that the voters overwhelmingly approved of this past election, Kealoha cannot be fired or suspended because he is grandfathered in under an older contract.  That was the consenses of city attorneys. Other attorneys HNN interviewed don't think so and feel.the new charter gives them the power to fire Kealoha.

Thanks Dog.

MAYBE for the case against the city, but should give him the same as we get, a "public Defender" for the gun cases.
Those cases are strictly against him personally for choices he's made to violate our constitutional rights.  :grrr:

I can see the reasoning behind the city paying for private attorneys.  The city has to pay for the Chiefs legal battles related to his job, even if members of the public disagree with them or it may possibly be an unconstitutional issue.  Unless it's clearly breaks a law or clear court order/precedent.  If the city didn't pay, then no one would want to be the Chief.  Since Kealoha may be investigated or possibly prosecuted by the AG, it would be a conflict for the AG office to help defend him in the separate case.  Not really unusual as private attorneys are sometimes contracted if there is a shortage of public defenders.

If Kealoha were to lose the 4 cases using public attorneys, he could claim the AG did reprisals on him by giving him terrible public defenders or they sabotaged his defense.

As a tax payer and in favor of CCW, my tax dollars should not have to pay for this particular lawsuit.

Crazy idea here, what if we repeatedly sued the city for 2nd amendment violations? Would they ever roll over due to the costs?

I realize each suit would have to have unique arguments but if enough people did it then it would send a strong message to the HPD and the city.

Who would pay for the lawyers for us?  Unless your financing this.
