Kealoha doesn't have law enforcement powers and no badge, and he isn't retired.  I don't think he can do LEOSA.  I'm wondering if they granted him a civilian CCW to cover him now.  Would be interesting to do a Freedom of Information act request on CCW's issued in 2016 and find out that one was issued.
No need for a UIPA formal request. You can get the docs just by asking for them... and maybe having to pay a fee.

"Whats next for the chief?"

Possible slap on the wrist followed by lengthy retirement collecting exorbitant pension footed by Hawaii taxpayers.

Just a wild guess, no crystal ball involved.

That's right on the money!!  :wtf:

You don't have to be psychic to predict that Hawaii government will continue to be corrupt to the core in the future as it has been consistently in the past. And all the "progressive" citizens here, loving the high taxes and all the corruption and dole and government meddling in private affairs they provide, continue to elect the same politicians who guarantee to provide more of the same for the foreseeable future. Lucky we live Hawaii!

Any guesses on the dollar amount of the "buyout"? I'll go for $350,000, figuring that he/his lawyers asked for a million.Corruption pays! Bigly!   >:(

According to a news article I read on KHON, his salary is $190,000 a year and his current contract had 3 more years, so the powers that be are thinking $500,000 would be a fair amount.  The way I see it is he retired on his own, so why should we taxpayers have to pay him for the remainder of his contract?  It is not like the UH football coach who gets fired and UH has to buy out the rest of the contract.

They are trying to ease him out the door without risking a lawsuit.  That would drag things out and cost much more than the severance payment.  Cut your losses and put the situation to bed!
