AR Tiggers

What aftermarket triggers do you guys have in your AR's and what do you like about them?  At first I was thinking of going with a Timney trigger due to ease of installation, but after doing further research I found that some shooters had problems with them that weren't easily remedied because it is a drop in unit.  The other one I was considering is the Geissele SSA.  Anyone try the JP or Jard triggers?

Only one I have experience with is the chip McCormick.   It's a drop in trigger assembly which is so easy.  It had a clean single stage and I really liked it. I have a timney on a bolt gun and have no complaints on that one either. Right now I'm running a cmmg cuz I'm cheap and it's a 16"" carbine not a precision upper.

Just do your own. Takes time but saves some cash. I did mine and it's about a 4 lb pull and the break is crisp.

I have a Bushmaster single stage trigger which is my favorite. Very crisp.  I also have a RRA 2 Stage trigger but it needed work to be smooth.

What do you use the trigger for?

The one thing I hear about doing your own trigger is that it weakens the metal. Something about the metal used being surface hardened and not hardened all the way through. And if you grind away any of the surface, you ruin the structural integrity. I dunno if that's true, it's just what I've heard.

Don't have experience with the SSA, but I have the SSA-E. Really nice 2nd stage let off. Ordered a Timney 3# trigger, but didn't feel as crisp as I expected so I returned it.

I've been doing my own triggers for years. I started out by doing my Remington 30-06, I set it at 3 lbs because I was anticipating the recoil while pulling the trigger. Then I did my sks and removed to much material. I dropped the gun one day in the mountain while climbing up a ridge and it went off. Talk about an "oh shit" moment. I had to buy a new hammer and sear and did it right the second time. Just did my AR. I also did my colt 45. You just have to be patient and test it frequently.

First I will measure the pieces with a digital micrometer, then I check the sear engagement. Next I polish both contact surfaces with 1200 grit paper on a flat surface like glass. I recheck the sear engagement and test to ensure the pull is smooth. I then use a wet stone with honing oil to remove material to shorten the pull. I will remove a little material at a time then reassemble the gun and test it. I keep repeating these steps untill I acheive the desired result. On my ar I bent the sping ever so slightly to lighten the trigger pull. I also slam the gun on its buttstock to verify it won't go off. Lesson learned from my oh shit moment.

The stock AR trigger is surface hardened, thereofre, attempts to polish the surfaces cna break throught the surface hardening.  Many people have tried to get results from the stock trigger...Frank WHite of Compass Lake etc...
THe best trigger with the BEST service is Geiselle.  I have the high speed trigger witht he trigger bow moved forward.  I had a RRA for years without any trouble.

Yeah, I've always heard really good things about Geiselle triggers and their awesome customer service that is what I was considering dropping one in.  When I read through various forums I also saw a lot of guys liked the JP Enterprises one too.  Price wise I'm tempted to try that one.

I've got something in my M&P 15T, but it's so long ago I don't remember what it was.  Cheap and single stage.

I've got to play around with the LWRC enhanced single stage.  It's OK, but I prefer the two stage Geiselle triggers.  I have the SSA or the DMR in my AR's.

Got to meet Mr. G last week.  He's a pretty cool guy.
