Slugs are only allowed at the rifle range and small ranges to the left of the entrance.

Link does not say that shotgun slugs are prohibited. Can someone give a definitive answer or link to rules? I don't want to violate any rules of the only public range..I'd like to bring some friends to shoot 12gauge slugs but I only have a 6-8 inch plate and at 100 yards would be difficult for them as they are inexperienced .

Sorry to inquire..

It doesn't say what you CAN'T use. It says what you CAN.  Assume if it's not listed, you can't use it.

Rimfire .22 rifles, and pistols of any caliber.

I don't see shotguns in the list at all.  Seems pretty clear to me.

The link does go to the page with all the rules.  I fail to see where the disconnect is.

I added "Centerfire rifles and shotguns prohibited."

Just so there are no more questions.

What about pistols that fire a rifle cartridge or shotgun shells

Pistols that fire rifle cartridges are allowed. Thompson Center pistols in rifle calibers are some of the favored pistols of the metallic silhouette shooter due to the accuracy and high downrange energy required to knock down the steel targets at up to 200 meters.

Shotgun slugs out of a pistol would be a waste of money. The closest steel for the plinkers are at 50 meters. You might be able to hit the big plates.

The Silhouette Range is operated by a private club. The Range Officers will have the final say on what they will allow.

If you come to the HDF open shoots (last saturdays of the month) they allow bird shot 6,7,8 only.

If you want to fire buck, you have to check the indoor ranges.

Are pistol caliber carbines. Like 9mm allowed on silhouette? I guess I could go down and check. But just thought I would ask here first since I saw this thread.

They would not allow me to use my 556 AR pistol, 7" barrel. If that has changed, I would like to know.

They should look at the intent and decide if it's "Any pistol caliber firearm", or "Any caliber pistol."

If they allow rimfire rifles, why not pistol caliber carbines?

I can see prohibiting pistols using rifle calibers, as higher velocity rounds will do more damage to the targets.

So you're one of the lucky ones that were able to register this in the 90's.

Many threads on here on how to make a legal AR pistol.

The two most common ways are (1) permanently attach the magazine to make it non-removable, or (2) remove the gas tube and make it non-semiauto where you have to pull the charging handle between each shot.

Either way prevents it from being an assault pistol based on the legal definitions.  You just need to classify the lower receiver as a pistol when you get it from the FFL, so it never gets transferred as a rifle.  There are other considerations, like how to legally convert from pistol to rifle and back without classifying it as an illegal firearm in the process.

I saw someone shooing an AR15 pistol the other week.  It looked super cool until I saw how he had to reload it.   I felt sorry for the people shooting in the stalls beside him....7" barrel with a stupid loud muzzle brake.   :shaka:

There's a lot of rules that don't make practical sense (ok to shoot rifle caliber pistols but not pistol caliber rifles...) but they are made that way to keep it fair across the board.  I don't think the range officers want to get into an argument or approve every firearm that comes into question.

Theres a video out there on IG about a quick reload of a fixed mag.  Its a modified stripper type clip style that you put in the open ejection port with the BCG locked back.  Then you feed the rounds in stripper clip style.  And when you remove the devise, it automatically sends the bolt forward chambering a round. Damn genius idea.
