SLINGSHOTS

Any of you out there use slingshots?  I used to make my own when I was a kid, but after looking at the Slingshot Channel on UTube, decided to buy some modern hi power models.  Got these from Amazon and 1000 3/8 steel balls was only $19.95.  Also got 250 7/16 size to try out.  The Pocket Shot with the low power black band is slightly more powerful than the slingshot with the six rubber bands.  Did not try the hi power blue band yet.  Both easily pushed the two layers of a cotton T shirt through the 1/4" cardboard at 10 feet.  Without the Tshirt in front, both will put the steel balls through 3/8" of strong cardboard.  I am pretty sure it will bury itself in flesh.  I will try it out next time I have to thin out my chicken flock.

Wearing eye protection using a slingshot is even more important than when using a gun.  The steel shot can fly back at you even when using old carpet on top of plywood.  Playing around with it today, I was impressed with the power and I think if I shot a chicken at 10 ft with the 3/8" or 7/16" ball, it would kill it no problem.  The Pocket Shot using pepper balls would be a good SD weapon.  Better than pepper spray.  I am going to try and shoot a pepper ball later this week and see what happens.

Watch this one first:

Then watch this one:

OUCH!!!  Damn thing looked real to me.  Glad "Herr Schleuder" is o.k.
Regarding ricochets, I always thought that slingshot ammo shaped like a trapezoid with sharp points would be wicked.   When I used to go in Sports Auth. , I always looked at the slingshots but never bought.
For a vehicle get home bag, a modern slingshot would be good in HI.
When I was a kid, always carried in my pocket some favorite marbles, a wire slingshot with a BB tube and either a top or yoyo depending on the season.   Sometimes I carried an old Horlicks bottle filled with water as a micro canteen.  Simple times

Good video!

But I was kinda wondering, they got the camera angle just right to get all his blood and gore. Seems rather convenient, since if you got such a head wound you'd probably be all over the place.

Wow.  The slingshot man gave me a big incentive to practice.  If I can consistently hit a soda can at 30 feet I would be very happy.  The Pocket Shot is hard to shoot accurately.  I would be happy if I could consistently hit a gallon jug at 20 feet.  That would mean I would be able to hit someone in the head at that distance.  With the 7/16" ball, I think it would kill a person if you hit them in the T zone of the face.  They certainly wouldn't want to fight anymore.  What I like about the Pocket Shot is you can carry it loaded in your pocket and it is very fast to,deploy and load.

I haven't touched a slingshot since I was like 10.  I had the version with only the single surgical tube set.  The velocity with three sets must be awesome, but sort of wonder about how to keep the bands balanced.  But yeah, with some practice, one can get pretty darn accurate.  When you're like 8,9,10, you have LOTS of time to practice.  Haha.  Not sure about lethal with a chicken, but there were lots of "targets" in the neighborhood that weren't safe out to about 30 yards or so.

a

You buy the replacement bands pre made with stops to fit in the frame.  I'm retired and only work one week a month so I got all kinds of time to practice.  It amazes me how the slingshot man can hit quarters thrown in the air.

The old Wham-o slingshots were all the rage when I was a kid.  Found out they were great for launching cherry bombs at night............

We used to make our own weapons with guava branch, surgical rubber and an old leather shoe.
Targets were little green army men.

Spent about 2 hours playing with my slingshots.  I was able to hit a soda can 60% of the time from 20 ft with tbe 6 band sling and then a band broke.  Didn't have any spares and ordered some from Amazon.  12 of them cost only $10.99.

Started playing with the Pocket Shot.  It put a 3/8" ball 2" deep into the trunk of a banana tree and the trunk of a banana is not real soft.  I started shooting a small cardboard box with old carpet for a backstop.  It went through the box and carpet.  I know this thing will bury the steel ball in flesh from at least 25 ft.

Is the pocket shot the best or strongest (velocity and structural) of the modern slingshots out there?  Looks compact.  Was just thinking of all the slag that was sh!tcanned when I was working.  Pieces of metal slag might have been like the HP of slingshot ammo, LOL.

The Pocket Shot is powerful, but Ithink there are stronger ones out there.  The PS can shoot regular arrows with an attachment they sell, so if you shot an intruder with a broad head arrow.......

The instructions say not to use rocks or sharp objects as that will cut the pouch.  When I was a kid, I would take some of my father's fishing lead, pound it flat, then cut it into squares.  That was some pretty wicked ammo, but the steel balls are really nice and cheap from Amazon.
