Of all that's happening, this is News?   No wonder Obama was POTUS twice.  Even he didn't believe he would win a 2nd term.

Men , Suit and tie for free flights..

Women, Pantyhose is required with a dress or blouse.  Long pants.

No jeans or shorts allowed for both men and women.  Aloha shirt were also  forbidden before

These rules are clearly stated on the ticket contact under "Dress Codes for free or reduced flights"

free or reduced fare tickets are NOT customers,  they are guest of the airlines.

United should have mentioned that the passengers in question were on a pass from the very get go and all of this would not have been national news.  When I worked for Hawaiian and was flying on a pass on a flight out of Hawaii, I would always wear a suit, because back then, you get upgraded to first class if you were wearing a suit and seats were available in first class.  More often than not, I would get an upgrade.  This was before American Airlines started spoiling things by starting a loyalty program to reward frequent flyers and FC seats started getting harder and harder to come by as more airlines started their own rewards programs.  Once my wife and I was flying from Honolulu to Hong Kong on a free pass from PanAm and when we checked in the agent asked me if we wanted to be upgraded to FC for $20 each.  We would get round trip FC passes on Western Airlines to LAS for only $12.   Ahh, the good old days.

Hawaiian Airlines requires that shirts be worn with shorts or pants, and swimsuits are not allowed on board flights.

I think women should be allowed to wear swimsuits! I saw a Japanese girl wear a swimsuit into Don Quijote once, but the plastic bag security guards made her put a towel on.

Non-issue/First World Problems.

However I wonder why the difference in dress standards.  When an employee and family fly, we don't know who they are...they're like everyone else waiting to board.

Sometimes the employee mentions to the passenger sitting next to them that they work for the airline, like on my last trip to LAS, the woman sitting next to me said she was a HA employee while we were making small talk.  Not a problem with me, being that I once used to fly for free or at a greatly reduced rate.  Others may get offended that this person is flying for free and they had to pay $600 for their flight.  If that person is dressed very casually, it doesn't look good.

I think schools should impose dress standards like when I was going to school.  Kids now days look like they are going to the beach.

especially when they offer you the Jump Seat. Always was in uniform when I ask for the Jump Seat.
Not very comfy but they offer you a First Class Seat after takeoff.

I was arguing with people on Facebook who were saying this is sexist discrimination and an extension of rape culture. It was "sexist" because it affected women more than men even though as I pointed out it wasn't targeting women. Such a stupid story with stupid offended people.

I then responded by pointing out if a male wore leggings there would be more issues than if a woman did it. How about I sit next you you on an airplane for 5 hours with my junk outlined by tight thin fabric. And if I get morning wood you are fresh out of luck.
