A while back, in January, after Hirono made her statements about Jeff Sessions and why she wouldn't vote to confirm him for AG, I wrote her an email in which I clearly stated how much I abhorred her "reasoning" and decision, and told her what I thought of her obstructing tactics, and how she would have howled in grief had the Republicans done the same to Obama's cabinet nominees. My view was clear and unmistakable in its adamant opposition to her position.

Here's what I got back today:

"Thank you for contacting me to share your concerns about the Trump Administration. I share your concerns about the President, his policies, and the people he's selected to serve on his staff and in his Cabinet. There will be many fights to come over the next four years. We need to stay the course to fight these battles, so please keep calling, writing, and speaking out so that we can hold this Administration accountable."

Followed by a long list of her obstructive tactics and positions.

Why do I bother?! Apparently no one in the office even reads the emails... they just chalk up every email as being in full support of her idiotic positions.

Okay, so I "couldn't let it go"... and called her D.C. office. I told "Nick" that I'd written, in no uncertain terms, that I opposed her position on Sessions and had just gotten an email thanking me for supporting her position on Sessions. He checked something and said, "Oh, yes, I guess it got "miss-sorted". We can send you another response." Gee, thanks. I asked what kind of data and record-keeping they have regarding how many other contacts they have "miss-sorted" and he told me that in his experience this is the FIRST TIME EVER that anyone has claimed to have not gotten the proper response to their communication to the senator! I then told him that it has happened to me at least twice previously, and that most people probably just chalk it up to "she and her staff don't care what I say, so why bother to contact them regarding their ignoring my comments?". So they have no idea whether it only happened once, as "Nick" claimed, or whether it happens 20% or 50% of the time that a communication is tallied as the opposite of what it really says. Our tax dollars at work! OMG!

Maybe what's needed is something like this after Gorsuch is confirmed next week via nuke express.    Aloha Sen. Hirono, Sen. Schatz, thank you for supporting Pres. Trump's nominee for the high court  of the land, Neil Gorsuch.   I look forward to your continued bi-partisanship and support for Pres. Trump's nominee to replace Justice Ginsberg in the very near future.

McConnell said this weekend the vote to confirm Gorsuch would happen by the end of this week.  HOW it happens depends on the Democrats.

Basically, they can't stop the Republicans.  If they push it, the Republicans will change the rules and confirm him with at least 51 votes.

What she really meant to say is , she doesn't "think" at all.   She will continue with a less than mediocre career as a U.S. senator and either die on the job or retire and get some high paying job at a dubious foundation.   The state will probably name a small park or utility shed after her in the future.

Also, notice how she immediately corrects herself after having said, essentially, that the decision is being made/should be made on the basis of emotion ("hearts"): "And people are making their decisions on the basis of what their hearts tell them to do, what their hearts and minds tell them to do." No surprise there, but why even pretend that there is a rational basis for her positions? I guess she thinks that everyone else, like her, lives in fantasyland, and will believe her lies.

ETA: If Schumer told her to change her vote to support Gorsuch on Friday because the "nuclear option" would be too damaging for the Dems on future SCOTUS nominations, she'd do it in a second. Principles, indeed.

That idea borders on the rational, so that will never fly.

"My" state senator last year responded to a question I asked him by stating that he didn't want people to be able to go into a gun store and buy a machine gun. I never heard back from him when I explained that his proposed legislation wouldn't have any effect on that because that has been impossible to do since 1934, a mere 82 years ago. He's a little behind on his understanding of actual firearms laws, but he is ever ready to propose more draconian new ones, even if they don't address any "issue" in the real world.

Speaking of "transparency and accountability" in government, a couple of weeks ago I wrote all the agencies (AG and county police chiefs) that testified in favor of SB898 asking them to provide various specifics regarding their anecdotal claims about "situations in the past" that would be remedied by the proposed legislation. Chief Perry (Kauai) came back with a one word response: "Why?". When i explained that the public has a right to know about the actual data upon which public servants paid by the taxpayers are claiming exists in vague general testimony statements, he wrote back that he wouldn't provide any specific information. Chief Ferreira (Hawaii County) got back to me yesterday with a one sentence response: "In regard to your questions, I will let my testimony speak for itself." This is the same chief who when asked to provide specifics of exactly how many crimes against individuals outside the home (i.e. where law-abiding Hawaii citizens would have to be disarmed) were stopped in the act by police officers (I haven't read any such news accounts), he responded "The department does not keep statistics on such events". I sure wish the public here in Hawaii had the possibility of using a "nuclear option".

Without your vote to filibuster the nomination it would have been unlikely that Gorsuch would have reached the 60 vote threshold.

Your actions have helped place a competent Constitution-abiding judge on the SCOTUS for life!

Now you've paved the way for Pryor or someone similar who will be even more adamant in applying the Constitution than even Gorsuch.
