It was a crowded meeting, about 200 or so and looked like most of them were from Kailua (her district is waianae, windward side, and outer islands). It wasn't what I expected as it was more like a rally where the vast majority of the attendees were supporters. Or it could be representative of the community since she won 81% of the vote. She spoke for about 20 minutes then opened it up to questions. Attendees had to sign a roster with their question and the moderator would select people to come up to ask their question. I didn't like that format since they could pick and choose the topics they wanted to discuss or not, but it kept the meeting orderly. I oppose a lot of her views but I thought she answered the questions well, was knowledgeable on the subject, and explained why she did the things she did. Like her stance on HB38, there were a couple of questions on subjects where stated she hasn't chosen a side yet. The topics were on stuff you would expect...Syria, obamacare, guaranteed income, Trump, and other mainstream topics. The only 2a thing brought up was people being disappointed on her vote against the VA from being able to take guns away from veterans. I'll attend some other town hall meetings to see if they're any different from this one.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any women to testify. I asked the Well Armed Woman group on Maui for help. I didn't think Tulsi would remember me from the Guard, but she did. I was able to talk to her before and after the meeting for a little bit and gave her a letter I wrote about HB38. It appears to me she's still undecided on it. On one hand she has to follow her party and constituents views, but on the other hand she has her own experiences.
