I found a GSG 522sd 1st Anniversary for $399 (that I might be able to negotiate on price) in perfect condition! Sports Authority has the Umarex MP5 22lr for $529... ???

Has anyone rocked the Umarex one yet? From what I understand, it's built buy Umarex but stamped with "HK"....

Yes, I've already played with the thought of buying both ;D but can only get one due to budget.......for now ::)

Any feed back is awesome, Thanks

What happen to being AK only? You need a AK in 22LR  :shaka:

I think Umarex makes one....

I haven't shot the GSG-5 myself but most things that I've read say that quality control is rather poor.  You also have to be willing replace some parts in the beginning or things start to come apart later.  I've heard about similar problems with Umarex.  From what I've heard, most of the air gun companies that make .22 guns use their existing parts rather then build new ones so you end up with an airsoft quality rifle that's shooting real bullets.  Granted .22lr is a weak round,  but for the amount you're looking to pay, I'd think you'd be better off spending a little more to get a Sig 522 or an S&W M&P 15-22 unless you REALLY want a .22lr MP5 clone.

I had a choice between a GSG-5 or a Sig 522 as my first rifle and I'm glad I went with the 522.  Six months and 5000 rounds later, I've only needed to replace an E-ring on the guide rod and have only suffered two malfunctions so far.  Don't know if I'd be saying that if I had gone with the GSG-5.

I agree, the Sig 522 and S&W both have really good reviews... It's something about the HK rifles that are starting to appeal to me...

No joke SpeedTek, not sure why I'm all of a sudden checking out HK rifles now...

I've been even checking out the MP5 variants from Vector and so forth...

I gotta sew bigger pockets on my pants though... :shake:

I handled the MP-5 at sports authority. Its alright I guess. The price in my opinion is a little steep considering its made by umarex. It does not feel like a real MP-5. Its to toyish. I liked the feel of the the MP 15-22 better. The colt 22 was just to heavy. I did not like how they designed the upper.

I've shot both an MP5 and a GSG a few times at HRA/LIFE events.  Can't say I'd buy one, since they aren't walnut stocked or WWII era guns, but for faux EBRs, both were a fine guns.  Reliable enough, accurate enough.  Not something I'd spent $$$ on, but that has less to do with the guns and more to do with my tastes.  Now, if they came in walnut furniture, and maybe a lever action variant...

Price is probably because they are paying H&K some $$$/rifle.

You can buy a 10/22 and then add one of the ukumillion different stock kits to make it look like an M1, AR, AK, P90, etc...

That Smith & Wesson is really cool with the compensator....  I'm thinking, if retail is $609, than it must be about $500ish!! not bad :)

I'm might look in to that S&W 15-22 MOE

I seen a pic with the fake suppressor taken off of the GSG 522 and Umarex MP5 22lr...looks like a metal straw :-\

For $499 you can order a AR15 kit from palmetto state armory. You can add the magpul accessories when you customize your order. You can find a striped lower for around $100. Order the CMMG 22 conversion and now you ave a dual role AR.  :geekdanc:

CMMG complete upper conversion is about $350 Combine that with a PlumCrazy Lower $150 and you are in it for about $500

Later you can get a upper and shoot 223 or 762 or ???

or just use the CMMG upper on your AR lower and you got a reliable 22LR

I like the CMMG bolt conversion. I just swap out the bolt and load the CMMG mag and I'm good to go. I don't have to store another upper in my safe. The Bolt fits right in my range bag. You can get the bolt and 3 mags for $200 shipped.

The only issue I have with the drop in is getting the gas hole dirty.  Also it is recommended you have to clean the chamber before you run 223 through it.
at the range that is no fun having to clean a gun when you should be shooting.
I also use one and have a dedicated upper.  The dedicated upper has tighter groupings.

We will have a cool 22LR AR at the gunshow.  :geekdanc:
