This Florida man hoping to get a lift home ended up getting one to jail instead.

Emanuel Guadalupe, 22, was walking in Vero Beach last week when he waved down officers to ask for a ride, according to the Sebastian Daily.

Fortunately for Guadalupe, the police agreed to give him a lift. Unfortunately for Guadalupe, they said he could get a ride under the condition that they search him first to confirm there were no weapons or contraband on his person.

Authorities said that Guadalupe told the officer to “hold on.”

“I have something I have to tell you. I have my girlfriend’s gun in my pocket,” Guadalupe said, according to the report.

Guadalupe, who did not have a concealed firearm permit, was arrested after a search uncovered the firearm in the front pocket of his shorts.

He was charged Thursday with carrying a concealed firearm, which is a felony.

Guadalupe was brought to Indian River County Jail, where he is being held on $5,000 bond.

Straw purchase? Prohibited person? Criminal record? Or upstanding law-abiding citizen of the community merely exercising his Constitutionally-guaranteed rights while awaiting issuance of his already-applied-for CCW license?

ETA: I guess at least sometimes my "cynicism" (I prefer the term "realism") is at least somewhat accurate. He was arrested last August 2016 for Failure to Appear and Violation of Probation, so he's not 100% a totally upstanding member of the community...

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.  Criminals don't like being around police.  If he wanted to kill the cop, he'd just sneak up behind him and put a bullet in the back of his head.

Failure to appear and violating probation could be from other things like DUI or an excessive speeding ticket.

I agree. Would be a different matter if the cops noticed the gun in his pocket first.
