I know some guys like Caldwell because he's said he's pro 2A. I will say this.............in the time he was #2 in the City and the time he was Mayor..............what did he do for the shooting community?
To me the answer is nothing. He's full of hot air. I know there are others on the site that feel differently, but I again have to ask, what did he do and we all know the answer to that.
Ask yourself what Ben did for gun owners while he was in office. As for what Caldwell tried to do, I can tell you that I was personally involved in several discussions with him about firearms and range improvements. During his short tenure as acting Mayor, he began the process to make significant range improvements, including building a classroom. And, after witnessing his demeanor in that meeting, I can GUARANTEE you that Caldwell is neither "full of hot air" nor is he "not tough enough" to get the job done. To illustrate the point, when Caldwell's legal staff kept giving excuses as to why things like a public/private effort to improve the range and build the classroom could not be done, Caldwell, said "I don't want to hear why we can't do it...I want to know how we can do it. I want to see your report on my desk detailing how to proceed by Monday [a little less than a week]." So, myself and the other attendees of that particular meeting (which included the HRA President, HCR-PAC Chair, and the LIFE Vice President) can all attest to both his genuine desire to help us, the shooting community, as well as his willingness to fight for what he wants. Don't let what you see on the TV or the political ads fool you...he's got the stones to do what he thinks is right, and he truly believes in "our" issues.
As for what he did when he was Managing Director, well Mufi was his boss at the time and while we (HRA) were working with Mufi, Caldwell was not in a position to effect any independent changes or efforts.
As for the rail issue, that's another matter and each voter will need to determine how much weight to give that issue in regards to determining who to vote for. But, I can assure you that on the issue of firearms and firearms rights, Caldwell is not blowing hot air and has the tenacity and strength of character to be of great help to us.
