Went to the range! Finally..
« on: July 17, 2017, 01:10:14 AM »
Went to the range finally. Arrived there a little past noon. As soon as I got there, RO gave me a bench. About the RO's, they all was nice. They help me and my family a lot. Got some tips from them too. My brand new Dewalt stapler was jamming on me when I was making my targets. So the RO's was kind enough to lend me theirs. The target stand I made fit perfect when I did the dry fit by the bench. But when I went out there, the target holders, two of them was kinda mushroomed. Looks like some people took a hammer and smashed them in. Though I got it to fit with a little force. I even plumed it with my torpedo level lol.. Anyways, some other nice old guy there and the RO help my daughter out with the bench. Cause she short so they flipped the seat bench over that had a little boost on it. Never new it could do that.. lol. Learned a lot today and was fun.
So anyways, I bought some factory ammo for my family to shoot so they can shoot some. I shot my reloads after. I picked up some BH 77 grainers. My Labradar was registering 2440-2460 fps at 50 yards. Btw, I gotta do my load development at 50. Labradar can track up to 125 yards depending on caliber. I called the company and because I'm loading with .223 77 grain BT's, it'll only track those 40-70 yards. Though never had a problem with the unit at 50 yards. Every shoot registered. I just gotta remember to press the arm button again if I past 10 seconds lol.. Well, I can change that in settings. One thing about the BH's ammo too is before I went down to the range, I measured the COAL on them and man are they all over the place. Not much though, from 2.24-2.25. Probably don't make that much difference I think. Grouping was ok I guess. I not one expert. Seems like around 1.5 at 50 yrds. Gotta practice some more. Anyways, when I did some of my reloads, the grouping change and became much tighter. So far, I got really tighter groups. But again still only 50, But the reloads shoot so much better then the factory BH. Still not done with my reloads yet though. Range was closing. So next week again. Will post some pictures of some of the shots on the target. Thanks again you guys for the help.. Mahalo..  :shaka:

So far I'm liking:
CFE 223
Grains: 23.5

No pressure signs

Right on!

The pipes get shot up, so guys hammer them back out.  They eventually get replaced.  Not sure but I think by volunteers ...

How did the Labradar do with shooters around you?

Labradar worked great. Never picked up any of the neighbors projectiles or blast.  I have the settings set at 7-12".  So my muzzle needs to be on the side of the unit no more then 12". It has settings from 1-6", 7-12", and 13-18". The closer the better the units gets triggered by the blast. And then sensitivity was set to 3. These levels go from 1-5, 5 is the most sensitive. Company said, if I'm gonna use the unit at a indoor range, it should be set at 1. I called Labradar before I went out for some tips. The support was great. Labradar, easy for use.

Awesome experience.  I found that when I was a noob there, the RO's were more than willing to help me out.  I even posted a thread last year about unwritten rules for the range.

It took me awhile to realize that there's a variety of table heights. The short tables make me hunch too much but difficult to be picky when the tables are full. Those seats are versatile but can dig into the glutes after an hour or so. I need to remember to bring a seat pad with me.

Does the Labradar also show the std dev for each set? A single digit SD can depict a very reliable measurement. I believe there's a direct relationship between stability of the load and SD so it's another indicator to use.

2400 is slow for 77s. I'm pushing them to 2700 and that's where they are accurate.

Yup.  Nice guns, nice gear, nice shooting!  Good to hear you folks had a good experience at the rifle range.  I need to get myself out there more often too.

Gotta pack the cases full to get 2700 with my Noslers. Even the middle loads cause the powder to crunch when seating.

Far too many variables to use manual load data for velocity.

Nice! On what length barrel and COAL? I'm just playing it safe right now. Staying ..3-.4 below recorded max data. I'll work up slowly for  now, I'm just trying to see what powder shoots accurately and consistently first. Then I'll take it from there. My COAL is around 2.308-2.309. With jus the right amount to be feed through the mag and get the ogive closer to the lands. Though, still get atleast a .225 bullet jump left even when I'm at 2.309. Cartridge base or brass I'm using to ogive or lands  is 2.089. Sierra TMK bullet ogive to top of bullet I came out with 0,445. + the 2.089 come out 2.534. So even if I made the COAL to 2.31, still get plenty more jump.. lol. But atleast I got the bullet more close. Being that said, I can probably pack more powder later but watching out for pressure signs. Hmm, I might experiment with with 80's single, hand fed though.. later maybe..

There's always another bullet/powder to try.

Yea, I made few more reloads of different powders I still need to shoot this weekend. Reload powders of TAC, BL-C, Varget, and XBR 8208..

it might not be worth your while to chase the lands.  your HK MR556 is chambered in 5.56x45 so it already comes with a longer leade.
