.38sp takes out 820lb hog
I'd like to say that .38special is a formidable and deadly cartridge, probably shot placement had a lot to do with this kill
but it does prove that .38sp ain't no pea shooter either.   :shaka:

Was discussing this one on another forum.  Seeing that we have some "real deal" hog hunters here, wanted to get their feedback.

Some feedback offered by some guys in Texas, New Zealand and OZ, who also hunt feral pigs, mentioned a number of things that sounded off about this story.

1) The pig looks too clean.  No scars from what would likely be numerous fights for a male that old/large.  Also too clean in that they were guessing it was likely a feral pet that was raised.  Also something about it's almost unheard of to encounter feral pigs with almost uniform coat like that, at least in New Zealand and Texas (Houston area).
2) Something about feral pigs are smart and have keen sense of smell and not really known for "hanging around" neighborhoods like that.  Again, unless they were already somewhat friendly.
3) They dug up other pics of the guy and the hog looked much smaller.  That and no signs of bullet holes.

I've never been pig hunting.  Seen some on the side of the road all over, but that's about the extent of my experience with pigs.  Well, other than ham and bacon.   ;D

Nah. I wouldn't know any different. The only one that I had was that the original pic looked off. Anything beyond that, I'm just conveying what they were talking about.
