Small public PA system
« on: August 08, 2017, 08:32:49 PM »
Hope this in the correct discussion.
The Honolulu Trap Club has asked me to install a PA system on the trap range @ Kokohead to announce squads, warnings, etc. We need 2 weather proof horn speakers, PA amp and a wired stand mic. Speakers will be mounted under the eves of the RO office and need to be clearly heard within a 25-50 yard radius of the office. They want a simple, permanent system (not a handheld bullhorn) and not wireless (wire runs will be 30' or less from amp to speaker.
Is there anyplace here locally that sells these systems?
Appreciate any help or advice... :shaka:

I used to work for a company long ago that installed them in tour buses etc.
I'd get my parts from MCM Electronics or Parts Express.
If you need help installing PM

Oh, bout $200 or less

If you don't mind buying the stand and clip for the mic separately, Amazon has a 2 X 65W PA speaker, 50W amp and mic setup for less than $100.  Amp supports 3 speakers and 2 mics at once, and the comments say the speakers are effective to about a 200 yd distance.

Also need to supply the speaker wire for length of runs.

That's a pretty tiny budget to the point of being unrealistic. I know guys in the AV world that could easily spend 100k+ on that setup. I really don't have any recommendations; at that price range its roll the dice and hope for the best on Amazon. If you get up in the 1k-2k range you might be able to find something that will work.

Flapp_Jackson referred me to a system on Amazon. Very very basic. 2 outdoor speakers, 1 mike and an amp. Being used to announce squads/general announcements on the Koko Head Trap range. System was under $100 and the club bought two sets.
Thanks Flapp!  :-*

I've been getting ignored on here a lot lately.  Just making sure the item you ordered is the same one I posted.

Interested if it fits the bill.  Less than $100 is a good deal if it's sufficient quality.

Union wages
County permits
Environmental Impact Statement (can't disturb tourists or endangered birdies)
Building and installation code compliance
C&C inspector gratuities

And that's on top of using a C&C designated supplier with their mark-up.

I was somewhat poking fun at AV people in general (guess it takes one to know one), but if you think its that funny or absurd, obviously you haven't been in the pro audio world very much.

A PA system this size isn't close to "Pro Audio" in any aspect.  It's all hardware installation.  Anyone who can run the wires, mount the speakers, and plug up the amp can handle it.

If we were talking Aloha Stadium or Blaisdell, that's different.

A former roommate was into hi-fi stereo stuff and that stuff was damn pricey.  I mean some of the stuff was ultra clear, but you've have to be trying to notice a difference.  It was to an extent where I didn't think the cost was worth anywhere near the perceived benefit nor enjoyment.

For work, I also deal with AV specialty offices.  And their fees to even consult on projects is ridiculous.

Reminds me  car audio back in the 90s.
Richard Clark was an electrical engineer and David Navone was a physicist. They formed a company called Autosound 2000. They built up a reputation for themselves. Then I was just out of high school. Now when I think about it - what's these 2 guys with such creds doing in a market such as car audio anyways. Richard Clark competed in the auto sound circuit but lost to Speakerworks. He only won and gained "fame" when he bought the Speakerworks Buick Grand National.

1) Again, you miss the point, and you quite obviously have no idea about the people or industry I am talking about.
2) That system could definitely enter into the "pro audio" realm, which is itself a highly ambiguous term. Again, you don't know what you're talking about and all you're doing is proving it.

Maybe better to keep quiet rather than just being contrary for the sake of it?

I had friends who got all into car stuff back in the early 90s.  They spent tons of money!  Again, the stuff sounded great, but dayum it was pricey.  Changing out stock head unit and speakers in my dad's old Honda Accord was about the extent of my audiophile endeavor.  Haha.  It's amazing at how trendy brands and stuff were.  Even the mags that they read and got reviews from.  Same with the home audio guys.
