I heard this news bit recently. Apparently even Robert E Lee didn't want confederate statues or monuments. I certainly wouldn't want my taxpayer money going to build statues of traitors though as far as the ones already built I say let the town decide what to do with it.

Almost all Confederate monuments and statues were built using private funds, most of the funds raised by groups like United Daughters of the Confederacy.  Tax money may be used to maintain the common area if it's placed on public land, but much of the land was donated as well.

None of the Confederates are traitors.  They were pardoned and granted amnesty in 1865.  No matter what "crimes" may have been committed before or during the war, they were forgiven.  All Confederate soldiers and sailors were designated Veterans of the United States by an act of Congress.  All benefits and honors provided to other veterans are to be afforded to former Confederates.

You should show some respect, since they deserve it.

Confederates were looking forward to going to trial for treason. 
Since nothing in the constitution prohibited states from leaving the union. 
Which is probably why charges were dropped and all forgiven after the war.

A pardon might legally absolve them from the crime of being a traitor but that doesn't mean they aren't traitors. What they did was still an act of a traitor, amnesty or a pardon does not change that.
