to all diabetics stockpile your insilin
And your insulin too.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Okay I'll Share...  No tin foil hat B.S... just reality.... We are not preparring for the end of the world... Just a real bad storm, hurricane, tsunami, etc....

Pretty sure I posted before... but again....

I've been a camper/prepper for many years... finally decided to up my food storage to a "higher level"....

Over the course of several months so not to sore on the wallet....

Ordered 20 mylar food storage bags, 3 gallon bags as I recall, along with a large pack of 02 absorbers.... (Excuse my numbers... did last month plus Ive been drinking... heh heh)

Packed and stored...

60 lbs. White Rice
20 lbs. Pinto Beans
20lbs. Wheat flour
20 lbs. Oats.
10 lbs. Sugar
5 lbs. Salt
10 lbs. Pancake Mix
10 lbs. Powdered Milk
5 lbs. Black Beans
5 lbs. Peas
10 lbs. Baking Soda

Sealed em' up with the 02's and a heat sealer....

We have a full pantry of canned goods, plus two large "storage totes" full.... Canned spam, vienna sausage, corned beef, tuna, salmon, veggies, beans, fruits, etc. all rotated from the bins to the pantry in that order so nothing gets out of date....

Two Costco "25 year buckets" of various freeze dried foods....

Hope this helps and gives a good idea of the basics....

How are you going to cook all that?  GZ is interested in others' cooking sources.

Anybody have any experience with a solid multi-fuel stove?  My old timer fishing partner swears by his Petromax lantern with burner attachment.  I was wondering if anyone else has one of these.  I've been on the fence for some time whether or not to buy one or buy something else.

Sorry forgot to add link if anyone else wanted to checkout what I'm talking about.

As for cooking I'm going with propane as well. My stove is a gas stove so all i did was buy propane tanks and a adapter to connect tank to stove.

I think you need to add the activated carbon filter to remove chemicals from the water too.

I just purchased a Berkey gravity water filter.  It is not as portable as the Katadyn, but it will work for what I need.  Plan to put a few drops of chlorine to kill 100% of bacteria and pathogens before it (the water) even goes through the filters.

Although, the Katadyn will be better suited for my BOB . . . may have to get one as well.

Mahalo for the info!   :shaka:

did you buy this filter locally?  if so where can i get one?

THanks

We use propane for our hot water and dryer... I have two 100# tanks that i rotate for that plus three, 10# tanks for grills, back up etc...

If shtf or a propane shortage, I would cut off the dryer, and just hang clothes.  The LP would be for hot water and cooking.... Cooking only if it got that bad.... :P

That's what I'm talking about.  Multiple fuel stoves.

To me multi fuel is the way to go when looking at long term senarios because you may not be able to refill you propane tanks.  Propane tanks are awesome for bugging in and sitting tight for a week or two.  We have a gas stove and gas water heater at my house and right now its nice when the lights go out we still got hot food and hot shower, so maybe a few propane tanks as backup might be smart too.   The reason I looked at the Petromax lantern was it allowed me to be mobile if need be.  My fishing partner swears buy his.  We've used it when we've camped overnight and burned kerosene as the fuel source.

Not for nothing but propane will give you a lot of use.... more than a few weeks or two if you got enough stored and cut off the dryer and heater.

LP storage is pretty much infinite if stored properly and used sporatically can last a long, long time!

Keep several spare tanks is all i can say....
