It's illegal.  I used to carry my dad's stainless 357 about 15yrs ago, it was back then.  i remember him telling me if we ever get approached by coast guard to just toss it overboard.

So the non-law abiding citizens can now rape and pillage all boats in Hawaiian waters!  Law Abiding Citizens are unarmed.  and if you get in trouble I guess you just yell COAST GUARD! and they will come to your aid in 1 Hour?

What if you live on the boat?
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Naturally, it's only Hawaii. Sane states don't give two sh!ts what you've got on your boat. I wonder, though, if you could get around that by sailing outside the 12 mile line. I don't think the state could tell you that you weren't allowed to take a firearm outside US territorial water. On the other hand, Hawaii is full of surprises.

Is that where "Hawaiian" waters end? 12 miles of off shore?

The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Don't know if I buy the illegal on boats thing. That may be anecdotal. Its kinda like your home or place of business.
I know when I was fishing, especially in remote places we always had a gun on board. Before the Stainless Mini 14 the Ruger 44 mag carbine was the piece of choice.
Never gave it a second thought.
We never used it as such, but the common name was "Winchester Gaff"

Same here, we used it to quickly kill 150# Ahi's... there's no better way.  We lost a couple $500 fish boxes after hitting them on the head with a club, thinking they were dead... they destroyed the boxes after putting them in.

Still, doesn't make it legal.

That's where US waters end. Outside of that, you're not in the United States anymore. Of course, they'd probably jam you up saying that you departed from Hawaii and are returning to same, since the state hates anything it can't regulate.

Just spoke with my friend (game warden), he says as long As gun/persons are legal it's not a problem. They know many people use them to dispatch fish. BUT he also said the firearm needs to be realistic in it's purpose - not a 50bmg.

don't know why someone else isnt jumping in on this one... ???

I respect your DNLR friend and all, but it's "ok" or legal IF you're taking your guns on a boat to OGC or the range or HPD.

nope... we both knew it was illegal.

transporting a firearm to the harbor, is it legal?  Is the harbor a GS, range HPD?

boats are basically vehicles.   I'm not saying that DNLR won't give you a break, i'm talking about legality.   :closed:
