The HA Agent didn't find explosive residue on the firearm? I guess they're looking for something else.

They swab for nitrates and glycerine.  Munitions with gunpowder are considered a false positive if the tester alerts to your baggage.

Just tell the TSA you have ammo, and they'll do additional swab tests to rule that out.

Lots of other common products and chemicals that can test positive.

Good luck Sam, I've emailed HA about their definition of a hard sided suitcase and got the run around about 8 emails worth.  All they did was copy and paste what was written online.

I even sent them pics of my suitcase and got the copy and paste again.

I asked if a hard suitcase that has cloth connecting the zipper to it is "hard sided", or does it need a buckle like  a pelican case or 70's era suit cases have.  So I actually went to the HA gate prior to and showed them everything that I'm bringing.  The manager there pre approved my suitcase and I told her I'm going to call her if I have problems.  She said thats fine.  That's when she explained the HA CSC is a call center not local.  Since I was at the airport, I also went to TSA and they approved everything also.

I definitely was overthinking things, but it's better to be sure than to be stuck at 1030pm at the airport.
