Front Shooting Rest Comments & Suggestions Requested

Ever since I got into shooting as a hobby, I've always wanted to buy a decent front shooting rest. Not one that breaks the bank but something that's sturdy, adjustable and will last.  I'm talking about the type of rests that you place your barrel (i.e., rifle or pistol) and not the one what have cradle the entire rifle from barrel to butt stock.  I've been looking at Caldwell's deluxe model, the Caldwell Rock BR Competition Rifle Front Shooting Rest which sells for under $150 but that rest seems to have mixed reviews.

Caldwell sells a cheaper model, the Caldwell Rock Front Shooting Rest, for about $75 but that model has even worse reviews:

There are some rests that cost as much as a used firearm like the Bald Eagle Front rest which retails for $425 ($215 on sale) but these rests seemed to be over kill for the non-competitive weekend warrior like myself.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the front rests and are there ones you would recommend and/or stay away from?

I had the Caldwell Rock BR 1000 and used it for awhile. Decent front rest. Very heavy. There's companies that sell upgraded head units. I sold it because I'm not big on benchrest type of shooting. I prefer prone

Edited: It seems Caldwell may have discontinued the BR 1000. If I remember correctly the BR 1000 was a bigger, heavier (+25lbs) rest the the Std BR. I would also suggest a quality rear bag like say an SEB Rear Bag (they also make some nice front rest/ joypods).

Thanks. I've been using an old worn out sock for the rear bag. Doesn't help that it has holes in it; the rice keeps falling out.

You can borrow my Rock Jr. if you'd like. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007Y8SBW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm using the Caldwell bag combo instead so haven't used it in a bit but nothing wrong with the stand. I like using something sturdy like the bag combo without breaking the bank which to me, is anything more than a seafood meal at Red Lobster.

The Bald Eagle Rest is now $139.95 !    I bought the triangle a few years ago for $325.00 !!!

(The triangle is easier to handle than the "slingshot" base that you have pictured)

I have the triangle one and removed the tube with the windage wire, and put the adjusting knob on the moving front rest.
This is how it looks without the wire:

Buy one of the better entry-level front shooting rests.........

Take a look at the link with the shooting rest without the tubing/wire.

I added to my post just above this one.
