Everything on order came in over the weekend.  Optic mount and SLR rail.  Have a guy lined up to help with threading of the barrel, so hopefully I'll have the gun up and shooting before too long.

if you don't mind me asking, what is the cost of the threading service?

Don't know yet.  I am planning on meeting up with the guy later this week to have him check out the gun and discuss options.  I'll let you know.  If I forget, feel free to remind me.

shot an AK on Saturday.  Haven't show one in 7 years.  I was surprised how little it recoiled (less than my AR).  AK just moved up a few notches on my "to buy list".

Did it have a comp or brake on it?

Comp, but my AR has a Gamma VG6 on it also.

I see.  It's pretty subjective.  All my ARs except for one has an A2 flash hider.  One has a BattleComp.  My Arsenal AK has the cheapo comp that it came with.  To me, the AK muzzle rises more than with the ARs, but some of that could be because the AK doesn't really work with the thumb over grip.  As for rearward recoil, I would say that the AK is a little more for me, but it's not like either really recoils that hard.

For this project gun, I'm thinking of going with a comp that isn't that is more for reducing muzzle rise.  To me, that's where I notice the AK more than ARs.

I don't own an AR platform.
I'm an AK guy for that sort of
situation, being 100 meters or less.
plus it is more likely people can
smuggle in ammo when Hawaii outlaws
your guns and America outlaws the ammo..
I never violate any constitutional federal,

As the Puna guy and the Inspector have told me
Hawaii cops read our stuff.
My favorite rifle is the SKS.
My second favorite is the M14.
or as we can only get the M1A.
I like 7mm Mag for long distances.
All my guns are on the mainland.
I do not violate any constitutional

Cool.  I've always wanted an SKS, but not willing to pay current going rate prices for them.  I needed to buy one like 10 years ago, maybe a little more.

The M1A is also another "one day" gun.  Just too expensive to me to feed a semi-auto .308 gun right now.

I shot a SKS.  They're super fun to shoot and fun to load (something different).  Recoil was very good also.  Only down side is the hand protection for the hot barrel sucks.  Burnt my hand a little.  Just takes some time to get used to.  But now I know how to operate one if need be (the safety is by the trigger that's a flipping latch).

Was able to chat with Craig at Red Letter today.  Estimate on the threading is $150 if the end of the barrel is plain.  Apparently there are some versions of AKs where there front sight sort of sleeves the end of the muzzle.  I don't think mine is that way, but if it is, it will be more.  I wasn't able to take my AK with when I chatted with him, so will have to wait until I have some time to actually take the AK by for him to evaluate.

Other than that, I have pretty much everything.  Added the BCM SOPMOD stock and a Magpul AK grip.  Just need to set aside some time to actually take the AK to get threaded.  Hopefully in the next 3 weeks or so.

Soon, but won't be this weekend.  Well, I guess could shoot it, just in the stock form.  What's the fun in that?   ;D

Function correctly?  I did buy it without test firing.  From the looks of the gun, I don't think the original owner did either.  So maybe it could use a function test shoot.  Hey Drakiir, make sure you have good eye protection when you go to fun shoot!   ;D Maybe some kevlar gloves too. . .

I know guys who bought a gun and didn't shoot it till a year later.  I guess cause I'm still new to the culture, I shoot it the coming weekend.  Got the bug still.

I normally shoot new guns before too long.  I got this AK as part of an estate sale from a friend.  I was looking for a beater/cheaper AK to MOD.  But this one was pretty much brand new and the wood stock made it potential for collector value.  I debated for a while just keeping it as-is and hold for value.  I have another AK that's a shooter, so it's not like I was "needing" to shoot this one.  But then I finally gave in and started buying the parts.

I have somewhat gotten the bug back since I've been shooting more lately.  Been both shooting more as well as buying gun stuff.
