This is scarier -- he pushes gun control laws in California based on his expert knowledge of guns....

Soo, how bout a factory rifle? Hold off?  I have 2 in mind then I’m done with the semi stuff. Was ready to go out and buy a few weeks back, but my wife doesn’t feel confident about purchasing now. I keep telling her the ban won’t go through, but she’s the one on the news all the time.. Telling me well what if it does? Loose money!! She even told me loose money that the people who wants the band don’t respect the amendments anymore..

Another ban would be a huge leap.  For argument's sake, let's say that a ban does happen, there would be two options;

#1 would be a ban on new purchases that would not affect current owners, ie, a grandfather clause for those who already own these weapons. This would mean that those who currently hold these weapons at the time of a new law being enacted would be able to keep their weapons, but the further sales or transfers of these weapons could be regulated under a new law.  This would be the most likely scenario if it could even see the light of day.  So in this instance, it would be to your benefit to own now before any new law.

#2 scenario would mean an outright ban on certain weapons that would need to include the subsequent confiscation of the weapons included in the ban, and time of ownership is meaningless.  This scenario would be so much of a stretch constitutionally and practically that you would have better odds winning the Powerball lottery twice in a row.  In other words, for this #2 scenario, you would need a gun ban that would also include confiscation.  Again so highly unlikely that you should take those odds in Vegas daily.  On the downside, ultimately if this instance happens, your purchase is lost.

I will say that if someone thinks that a ban automatically means confiscation or loss of money, they are ignorant.  Now if a ban does happen and you own a "pre-ban" weapon, you might stand to gain, depending on how laws are written.  So when it comes to this topic, your wife is either a genius or not.  You decide as you have to live with her.  Sometimes happy wife no matter how much you disagree is more critical.

As for those who say buy 80% lowers and make your own after any bans are in place would be most likely breaking the law, but probably don't give a shit about that.  I am not passing judgment, and while I think that is stupidity, I think you are much better off buying before any perceived ban.

If you're not planning to buy a Daniel Defense monster, you could buy the parts and hide them in storage until you're ready to assemble.

Barrel and flash hider
handguard and nut
gas block and tube
sights
upper receiver and parts
BCG and charging handle
lower receiver or 80% lower
trigger group
stock and buffer
Yahh! Freedom and justice shall always prevail over tyranny, Babysitter Girl!

I'd need a bigger safe as the wife filled the damn thing with her stuff after all those scary guns vanished.

If you got the funds and can find what you want, I say for for it!  Sounds like you do since you were ready to go for it a few weeks ago.  Enjoy life!

There's always a risk of losing money, including loose money.  While I also don't envision gun confiscation, it's your money.  Yeah, happy wife, happy life and all that.  But I'd be willing to bet that you have more "loose money" invested in her material things, but that's another story.

So, what are you thinking about buying?

If the wife is concerned about losing money, don't buy complete rifles.  Buy lowers. They go for around $100 on average.  So you can buy 5 and still be under the cost for a complete rifle and way under a DD, Noveske, etc...

I'm planning on picking up some once the Mrs decides what full size pistol she wants.

never hold off on getting any firearm
I've only regret NOT getting a firearm, and then go back to the store a couple days later only to see it was sold already

^^^True story, the wife wanted a Chiappa.  It was at Young Guns for $1200, in the case for months.  At the gun show, it was going for $700.  She missed her opportunity.  And we met the guy who bought it, he was shooting it at HFR a few weeks later.

I'm the type that I if really want something and I hold off, I usually end up going back to get it before long.  Sometimes the same day.  Firearms and other stuff included.

Many regret firearms that they've sold.  I've sold only one AR and I don't regret it at all.  However, due to Rapback, there are more than a few handguns that I'm now holding off buying as well as a lever action .357 Mag.

What are you looking to get?

I've been shopping for components for an AR lately and I'm seeing a good amount of sales on AR stuff.  I've been looking at barrels and upper components, but I've been getting many emails about sales for complete guns as well.  So hopefully things are settling down a bit with regard to what's in stock and prices.

Rapback gives me more pause than prices or future regulation.

I’m in the market for a HK762 since I already have a 556 version. Also a fn scar. If I can find who carries the scar. After that I’m done after i put the glass on the HK. If I get the scar, i was thinking just a red dot.

Anyway, OGC is probably your best bet for finding that SCAR.

We all think that, "I'll just put a  red dot".  And end up with an espresso machine attached.

:o :geekdanc:

Holy!  When I was shopping for my first AR, the MR556 was one that I really wanted.  I was all about HK guns at that time.

Between an HK762 and SCAR 17, dayum!
