Need Help Finding Red Dot Sight
« on: April 11, 2018, 07:13:17 AM »
Hey Everyone,

I have a red dot sight on my Ruger Super Redhawk. It attaches with the Redhawk's proprietary rings which are 1" diameter. It went south on me recently so I need to find another one. The brand is Millet. But I am looking for another choice besides Millet if I can find one. Does anyone have any suggestions for a red dot sight that has a 1" tube that can be attached with rings? Any other method of attachment cannot be used. Any help finding another choice is appreciated.

Here is the sight that came off of the gun:

I know Weigand makes a Weaver rail that fits on the SRH. So I can go that direction if I have to. I am first trying to find the 1" tube red dot if possible.

Thanks!

That beast on a revolver?

Had a Super Redhawk 9" once with a Leupold 2X scope on it.  You had to bench that monster.

Does Ruger make 30mm rings?  Fairly sure there are a few red dots in 30mm.

Hi Dave
Similar to Millet is Ultra Dot.  Has life time warranty.
Issue is a lot of them have a "negative magnification"
where the image is smaller.   The two I have doesn't
seem to have this.  I've never noticed until reading
about it.

I would go with the Ultradot 25  (1" diameter) in either silver or matte black.

If you order through ultradotwest.com, it's free shipping.  (at least when I ordered a red dot a few months ago)

Yes.  I agree about scopes.  If you're going to shoot offhand, you really should use a red dot.

I have a Leupold 2x handgun scope, as well as a Leupold 2.5-8x handgun scope...
you have to bench it.

The wobble shooting with 2 outstretched hands is too much.

https://www.jackweigand.com/Ruger-Redhawk-Scope-Mounts-No-Drill.html

Weigand has a picatinny rail for the Redhawk with no drilling/tapping.

Then, you can choose any red dot... anything from a Bushnell TRS-25  >>  Aimpoint T-1/H-1 .... whatever price that you want.

Thanks Stang. I checked those out. I'm kinda pake so spending $100 for rings is a little too much for me. Especially since I can get the Weigand rail for $60 and then mount whatever I want.

Thanks Walter. That is a good choice considering the lifetime warranty. Gotta think about this one.

I used to have a scope on it. I didn't like it due to the wobble. For what I am using it for the red dot works best for me.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help.   :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

I am thinking of going with the Ultradot. I do have a couple possible options I thought about this afternoon. I have an old original Bushnell Trophy red dot. It is obsolete but still works well. I have to find out if it is a 1" tube or 30mm. If 1" I can swap it off my S&W 627 which has a picatinny rail and then buy a nice reflex site for the 627. Or I could buy the Weigand rail for the SRH and I have an old large heavy reflex type sight on my .22 target pistol. I could swap out the old reflex sight, put it on the SRH and then buy a nice reflex site for the .22.

The SRH is a fun gun to shoot at 100 yards. I have had it for about 4 years now. And so far I have gone through 2 handgun scopes and now this red dot.  :shake: :shake: :shake:
