Fathers day HRA Shooting Fair
« on: May 16, 2018, 11:22:44 AM »
Taking my dad there as a fathers day gift and all rounds are on us (wife and I).  Instead of going to the same boring dinners and buying aloha shirts.

He's not totally anti 2a, but against "assault rifles".  But he's not the kind to go protest against it either like those other a-holes.  Could care less about bump stocks.

He's reading Tom Clancy books and ask me every now and then what's a Glock or M4. Or if I have a suppressor on my rifle .   So thought I would take him to try all sorts of guns.

Good on ya for taking your dad out to that event!

Has he ever shot an AR or AK?  The SSF will be an awesome opportunity for him to try many different varieties of those and more.  I know many anti-gun folks who formed their opinion having never shot a gun.  While I would say probably most would not change their opinion after having shot them, I've found that there are often quite a few who do.

Usually see many taking their dad and entire family there for Father's Day.  I've volunteered the past 5 years or so, and I hope to be there again this year.  There are many members on this board that volunteer as well!

The only thing he shot about 20 years ago was a 308 and 30-06 bolt action hunting rifles and a shotgun.  I was there at the time.  My uncle took us to the range as soon as I hit legal age to shoot those calibers.  He didn't like the kick of the shotty.

The bolt actions hurt my shoulder a lot because the stock wasn't snug against my shoulder and I was only 80lbs or so.  I was thinking of bringing him to HDF so he can see the Mrs shoot the shotty, but the SSF would offer more selection.

I'll be on handguns unless something changes between now and then.  I'll post the finalized price list on the forums and the HRA facebook page when I get it.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

Thanks, figured we will be spending less than a $400 dinner + aloha shirt.

Cash only?

They took credit cards as well but it's like an additional $1 charge per $20 spent.  Best to bring cash.  Also make sure you bring eye protection for everyone coming as you will have to purchase safety goggles for $10 if you don't have any.

I see.  My sister and her husband were apprehensive to shoot my ARs, but once they did, they enjoyed it.  They also shot my Rem 700 and my dad's 1903.  My dad liked shooting my 700 because it has a 4-16 scope on it and he could get really good hits, but my sister and BIL both really enjoyed the AR.  Like many, they were surprised that the recoil was really quite tame.  Actually get a lot of that at the SSF where they are fully surprised that the AR or AK even didn't blow them back a couple of feet.

I hope your dad has a great time!  At minimum, it will surely be time well spent for you and your wife to share something that you enjoy and are passionate about with your dad.

Handguns?  I might have forgot to email back about volunteering this year.  Looks like I will be able to volunteer, but I didn't want to commit until I was sure.

I'm pretty sure we need 1 more that can do handguns.  Dan can't make both days this year.  Email Kerry!

Handguns?  I try to stay away from there. . .  ;D

They usually have me on AR/AKs or pistol caliber carbines.  I'd actually love to go back to the 22 side.  Did that my first year and it was awesome.  Super busy, but awesome with the many little kids.  Well, and sometimes the not so little kids as well.
