Is there anyone putting on nrl 22lr/prs shoots here locally?  looks like it would be a good fun thing to do being that it really only takes a 100 yard range..

Hawaii Defense Foundation had a 22LR skill builder a few months ago.  It wasn't an official competition or anything.

Theres a smallbore league that does periodic shoots.
Not "tactical" as they shoot with Anschutzs, Win 52Ds, etc...

I've been wanting to organize a NRL22 match here. The targets aren't that costly and monthly formats are already laid out. Sadly I realized that most HI people aren't very assertive and would rather sit by and watch. I plan to travel to shoot these instead of holding my breathe that one happens down here. Nevada, Oregon and Washington are the ones I've been looking into. The 22 Marksmen Challenge is another one that is good. They have monthly matches but are in Utah. 22 PRS matches are blowing up across the US. I highly doubt anything will happen here.

I hear  you. I wish I could help organize an event but unfortunately I can’t commit the time right now, possibly in the future. I think it will be a “if you build it they will come” type of scenario.

Hawaii people in general are very passive personality types, they rather watch and feel things out before they participate. If someone organizes it, I will be first in line. I'm not holding my breathe though and definitely done organizing 22lr shoots here on Oahu. My friends and myself have tried too many times and only the same shooters show up. I realize I need to travel to shoot competitions. Good luck it you try...

We can start with NRA rifle competitions at Koko Head through the Puuloa Club if there is interest.  Would be a bit easier to do and try out.

NRA has Smallbore F Class, aside from their other smallbore disciplines. They use the A51/50y & A33/100y targets which are readily available. Not sure if the club would be interested in sponsoring this. I would definitely shoot, how many others would? Hard to justify putting forth the effort for a half dozen shooters IMO.

Perhaps the problem is they don't want to expose the fact they have un-registered guns.
We are law abiding guys here, but most  people in this state are not.
Most Hawaiian citizens I know are not very passive.  Just very careful,
as we live in a state run by a single party, that makes laws as it darn well
pleases regardless of what the people want.

Not really. In my experience, you can compete in most competitions at the local levels with whatever you have right now. For example at the last F-Class Match, my relay partner was shooting an off the shelf AR15 carbine with a Walmart scope out to 600y and having a helluva time. He didn't win but I doubt he was last either. At the national level, of course you will likely need a dedicated rifle for the discipline you choose to be competitive.

I don't know anything about un-registered guns. I will agree to disagree about people here being passive.

I do know I have come across many shooters whom ask about different events here on Oahu. I inform them, invite them but 95% of them never show up. There is always an excuse. This hasn't happened a few times, I'm talking easily 50 times plus.

If you want to do a NRA match then this is how i'd plan it...

Plan at least 6 weeks out.  2-3 weeks to plan and get approvals, 4 weeks to advertise.
Have an informal practice session prior to the match.
BBQ hotdogs and hamburgers after the match.
Have random prize drawing to include non-competitive shooters and beginners.

I think we can get a good showing if we advertise it really hard.

I will assist, I do not want to take the lead. I don't know what it takes to reserve the prone side with Mike but could find out. I will pass out flyers as well I know a few outer island guys that might be interested.
Informal practice: I am there most weekends. Anyone wants to come out, I have targets. I am out of the exact targets but have similar NRA targets. I'm planning to be there tomorrow after the HDF open shoot.
Potluck: I'm always down.
Prizes: ???

Let me know if you guys get this organized for sure and I will put it on the KHSC.INFO website. I probably won’t be able to participate but I can at least help advertise it.

Anyone want to help in organizing a NRA 22lr match?  I don't know how to organize it either, so it'll be a learning experience for all of us.  Looking at the middle to end of July.

Fees would probably be around $20-$25 for insurance, range fees, targets, small prizes, and hotdogs/soda.  Can do a NRA approved match which would count towards NRA classification.

Last I looked into NRL22 matches: You need to purchase their target package ($330ish), provide barricade package (I can help with many of the list), I believe all shooters need to sign up for NRL Membership. The monthly course of fire is set by NRL  and used nationwide. It'll also qualify shooters for their national championship.  Info here http://nrl22.org/ .

NRA Smallbore F-Class would likely be easier to get started as PRPC is already a NRA registered club. Targets are readily available and many are already NRA members (if wanting to be classified).

With that said, PRS style of shooting is blowing up nationwide. I think it'll attract the most amount of participants with 22 PRS being the most cost appealing.
