A semi auto AKMS is legal in Hawaii right? No one cares about the folding stock (Read 4123 times)

I have decided that I want to bring one of my just semi auto rifles from Texas to Kauai an register it.  The AKMS build will be fun.  I have researched as much as I can, and I don't really see anything about "assault weapon" rifles, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.  I know the penalties could be huge.  A semi auto build of a AKMS is a perfectly legal gun to own and register here right?  Looks like the pictures when the stock is folded and open.  Also, regular capacity magazines of 30 rounds is fine with an AK right?

Thanks guys!  I really appreciate the help!

If the barrel is not less than 16", and it is classified/registered as a long gun, it should be fine.

I'm not a lawyer, so it would be good if someone else with a similar set-up answers. too.  I've seen local gun stores selling rifles with side-folding stocks.

I appreciate the reply.  Yea I figure it's good, but the laws here are very new to me and we all agree they are pretty ridiculous.  Figure it's a good idea to make sure.  Thanks again for the reply!

Hawaii law has no overall length law. The barrel must be 16 inches or longer.

Do follow federal overall length law.

It looks like a nice build. Thanks for posting your pictures. You mentioned build several times.  If the receiver is built from a flat or 80% receiver, then the builder's name, city, state, caliber, and serial number needs to be stamped/engraved on the receiver.  If it is built on a completed commercial receiver then there should not be a problem.

No. That only applies to the commercial manufacture of firearms.

Only thing it needs for registration (in Hawaii)  is a serial number and it can be any combination of letters and can numbers. It can be located anywhere on the firearm in any size, font or language.

As long as your barrel is 16 inch’s or greater it’s a long gin In Hawaii.

The only issue you may have is at our outdoor public shooting range  - Koko Head Shooting Complex where I BELIEVE they ask that rifles with folding stocks must be fully extended. HOWEVER this won't be an issue with our PRIVATE indoor ranges - X Ring Security or Honolulu Firearms and Range.

Thanks again everyone who answered.  The registration went smoothy.  Holy hell that was a lot of work for just a semi auto, but I'm glad it's done.

That's a sweet rifle.  Everytime I see one, it reminds me of the scene in True Lies.  When the bad guy is on the harrier.
