If it isn't running, the best deal is to donate to Kidney cars IMO.
As long as there's no mold or water damage in the interior, they normally take them. I had one car the windshield must have developed a leak, but for a $100 donation from me, they took it. The cash offset any costs of dealing with mold.
All donations are tax deductible, and unless the car is higher than $500 in value, that's the max you can claim. I also claimed the additional $100 cash I donated.
It saves you towing fees junking it. Whether it runs or not, they pick it up with a tow truck. Driving it to their office wastes your time and creates an inconvenience for you getting a ride back home.
I've donated 3 cars. Go to the website and fill out the donation form. As long as the title is clear (no liens) and in your name, it should be easy. They don't care if it has current registration or inspection, but they do ask if they are current.
You can sign and mail the title to them, after which they schedule a pickup time. They will also send the top portion of the title to the DMV to notify them of the transfer if you wish.
Three cars donated. Good for them, good for me, and avoids the hassle of advertising to sell/junk it yourself.
It's for a good cause, too.
