Anyone try these?
Saw this bucket today at Sams. Think the price was around $95, so close to Amazon price.
https://www.amazon.com/Augason-Farms-Emergency-Servings-Calories/dp/B071KPGLBK/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1529470606&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=augason+farms+emergency+food&dpPl=1&dpID=41PT1aiEh9L&ref=plSrch

Never tried them but I see the calorie count of 1,220 is low (2,000 mdr) and the "meal" sodium counts are high.

A lot of these "Buckets with prepared foods like WISE, LEGACY and MOUNTAIN HOME, are all heavy in sodium (Legacy seems to have the highest Sodium and calories).

Having the combination of foods and sauce mix in one package seems to make them add more salt and reduce calories but I do have a couple Mountain Home buckets, "Outdoor Adventure Premium" (32 servings) and the "4 day Emergency" (28 servings)

When I can, I prefer to "prepare" my own dishes using THRIVE dried foods https://www.thrivelife.com/shop and my own vacuum mylar sealed LDS grains, beans, wheat, oatmeal, potatoes etc...https://www.yelp.com/biz/lds-cannery-honolulu
LDS' "Provident Living" has some very good  info.
https://providentliving.lds.org/?lang=eng

Sodium count is lower, combined calories and protein higher and I can be a little creative.
I have canned butter, Ghee and cheese.

Also have some assorted canned meats but not in a real hurry to eat those.
I may dent at seams and throw at enemy/looters.  >:D

If SHTF (no pun intended), would this be better than not eating anything?  Due to the pissing out of your ass which means extra water being loss.

I would say these are a total loss. You use a shit tone of water making the meals as well, they are all soupie meals as well.

Would be good to add as a side to something else but not as a meal

Good thing I got the Costco one (montain home). Talked to a hunter and he said you don't really need boiling water.  They just add water and eat it an hour later.  So if SHTF, they're still edible.

ate you talking about the mountain house 3 or 5 day bucket/box ??

Mountain house is really good stuff it’s mosyly regular dehydrated meals. Hot water will make it absorbe faster but you can use cold.

Zippz sells these I believe. He’s had them at the last couple of gun shows.

Ahh. I recall you mentioning trying a bucket and giving you the shits. Didn’t recall which one.

I have a bunch of Mountain House and I like most. I’ve tried Wise Foods and they are ok. I could eat them if I was really hungry.

Thanks. Will check those out.

I have a variety of non-perishable foods.  Like to have a variety. The “add water” type foods appeal to me because they are light weight and you can pack easily.

Give them a try. I tried most in that bucket. I bought some of the 4-day bucket from Hawaii Kai Costco a few months back.

I have quite a bit of Wise foods and a lesser amount of Mountain House.  Also, have SOS bars.  The Wise foods would be cut with rice and/or beans.  Mountain House doesn't need it as much, but I would still do that to stretch the food.  SOS bars are good but need rotation sooner, but 5 years is good and I am sure would last a good bit longer.

People,  its called SURVIVAL FOOD, not the greatest good in the world. Survival food is meant to sustain you and keep you alive in emergency situations. People overthink things, listen to bad advice and end up wasting tons of money, when they can easily make everything they need for cents on the dollar.

If You want the most effective and efficient, stock up on rice, beans, shelf stable fats, sugar,  salt, etc. Vacuum seal, put in a bucket and keep in as much of a cool environment as possible.

Wanna go a step further? Learn to make precooked, dehyrated meals.  There are lots of channels on YouTube. They keep in the freezer indefinitely if packaged right, and have quite a long shelf life if the salt content is high enough.

Makes more sense to spend money on more important things than "survival food". When you are starving,  ed everything is survival food.

When my now Son-in-law was a bit on the light side to join the Navy, I pumped him full of my stash of SOS bars and Fruit bars to bulk him up.
It worked !
SOS is out of Oregon so when my sis visited, I had her bring a case to me when she visited.
My son is now in Oregon so maybe he would do a "bulk " shipment for us as I am depleted and regular shipping from them is ridiculous.

I hear what you are saying Q, but not everyone has the time or desire to do all that.  For myself, I can foods, I do the mylar and oxy absorbers stored in steel garbage cans, but even I have to admit that I wish to not just survive but to thrive if the situation arises.  I can only eat so much beans and rice.  Mental health is extremely important in a bad situation and if can eat well and afford to accumulate foods already prepared to mix with the beans and rice, I am willing to do so for instant variety.  Some people have a lot less desire to spend the time that you or I might dedicate to food preps and they might have the cash to spend now.  No harm in that.  Being prepared means one less person to deal with.  I am not so concerned with how they do it, just that they get it done.

Rocky, great to hear re son in law!  I currently order the SOS bars via Amazon as they are Prime shipping.  So I pay $14 for two 3600 cal packs shipped.  So $7 per pack shipped.  Cheaper total shipped than other internet sources that I have found so far, but I don't look too hard either.  Would be interested if we could beat that pricing.

I am interested in trying different bucket foods to see for myself which ones I should stock up on. Yeah, emergency food, but there are a varying range of situations where I might need. I’ve eaten a breakfast Mountain House one when I was too lazy to go out and pick up food or to cook up something. Haha.  If the bucket that this thread is about gives people the shits, then that’s not good. Better to learn about this before a situation where the food is needed.

I also want to diversify types of food as well as shelf life. Canned food and stuff like MRE have shorter shelf lives and the bucket foods seem to have longer shelf life.

Good idea to cut the Wise packets with some rice or beans. I didn’t try all of the Wise packets, but some could use some thinning, like the chili one.

Never really considered canning. Something I might consider, but my current place doesn’t have that much space to store very much of that. But like said, have to look at priorities.

Hey Surf
As you already do mylar and oxy absorber's, you too might be interested in the LDS store.
You can buy some items in bulk  "grains, beans, wheat, oatmeal, potatoes" and seal as you do .
Most items are also available in #10 cans.( they used to sell the cans and let you can right there !)
Penny  per  pound, they can't be beat.
OLD order form below, prices may have changed but as you can see, they are more than comparable
Not a fan of the quick oats. but we do grind wheat to make our own bread.

The assorted flavor bars are pretty good too, adds variety.
I also now find SOS listed in Van Nuys, California and shipping bulk  from them cost more than the product
https://www.sosproducts.com/contact_us_a/268.htm
SOS Food Bar - 3600 Calorie - Each   Our Price: $5.50  Sale Price: $5.33
If they moved, that throws out the son shipping bulk  :'(

Canning is not for everyone and IMO not really necessary but a good skill to know if you ever needed food preservation skills if you garden etc.  Canning should also be rotated maxed at about 5 years, but I have some at 6 years.  We use the canned foods as needed so it rotates.  I like canned beef and chicken for quick beef stew and chicken recipes, pretty much heat and serve.  We also do mulberry preserves on the BI.

I can cut the wise foods with canned food or beans and rice which makes it much better since it is high sodium content.  A good way for instant flavors and seasoning other than just beans and rice.

The assorted flavor bars are pretty good too, adds variety.

I think that is the place I checked out online.  I tried putting in an order of 5 packs and shipping was $95, twice the cost of the bars themselves.  Tried 10 packs, 20 packs and shipping didn't go down much relative.  So I pick up the Amazon two packs, one cinnamon and one regular for $13.xx shipped free via Prime.
