Commercial was good, if only they didn't have a POS as the spokesman.  I didn't see any Asians in the commercial...

Hmm... just canceled an order for Nike shoes.   Time to go shopping again.   Any suggestions on good tennis shoe companies?

I have good luck with New Balance and wide shoes.

I have wide feet too and the ASICS E has been pretty good for me. I have been ordering from Amazon. Usually stores carry D widths locally. Even when Sports Authority was open. They seem to be consistent size wise, so have been comfortable ordering online.

I can fit the D widths ok, but the E and even EE are more comfortable.

I like New Balance myself. Not quite as stylish as most others but I really don’t care about style these days. They last a good long time for me.
Most New Balance is American made. Not all.
I buy New Balance or Bates.  I'd buy Red Wing
shoes if I was still working.

WIDOW OF FALLEN OFFICER Writes Incredible Letter To Nike:

I wonder if Nike is trying to buy their stock back.  Do a campaign like this knowing people will sell their shares.  Then buy them back at a cheaper price.

I wonder if Nike is trying to buy their stock back.  Do a campaign like this knowing people will sell their shares.  Then buy them back at a cheaper price.

A company can't act as its own shareholder. Repurchased shares are absorbed by the company, and the number of outstanding shares on the market is reduced.

There are rules on how many shares can be offered for sale on the market. If Nike buys them back, the number available for trading is reduced. They have to reissue them, with FTC/SEC approval, to produce more capital.

Remember, the company makes no money by buying/selling shares.  It's considered debt.  They have to use cash to buy the shares, which reduces capital for operations and expansion.  It's a zero-sum balancing process.

For example: If I buy 100 shares of Nike, that gives me a 100 shares of ownership in Nike. The price of each share is set by supply and demand in the market.  The company's value is based on that price, but that doesn't represent income for Nike.

Nike received whatever capital they will ever get in the market when a share is initially sold. At IPO (Initial Public Offering), if all shares are assigned, they get no more money from the market for that IPO beyond day 1.  If the stock price triples in a month, Nike gets no more revenue. They only received the IPO closing price when the stock was issued & bought.

If they want to take advantage of higher prices, they can try issuing more shares, but that dilutes the stock price, usually resulting in a drop in market price. More debt = less value.

So, no, I don't think they want the stock price to tank so they can buy it back.

So the reports that Nike lost millions due to the fall of their stock, does this really affect them at all since they're not losing the cash in their bank accounts?

Jumpin’ Ju-Ju Bones: Massive Collapse in Brand Image for Nike Following New Colin Kaepernick Branding Campaign…

Never before in the history of corporate branding decisions has a multi-billion dollar company had such a massive and swift drop of brand image as Nike.  The results from Morning Consult Intelligence, a firm that specializes in monitoring and measuring the brand image and reputation for thousands of major companies, reflects a massive drop in brand image across every single demographic.

We suspected there would be a diminishment of brand image, but nothing like the scale discovered within the polled data:

The report features over 8,000 interviews conducted among American adults, including 1,694 interviews pre-campaign launch (8/26/18 – 9/3/18) and 5,481 interviews post-campaign launch (9/4/18 – 9/5/18). Additionally, Morning Consult conducted a study among 1,168 adults in the U.S. about Nike’s ad and the decision to choose Kaepernick as the face of the campaign.

It makes their value-to-debt ratio worse, which can put some investors off, especially those who buy based mainly on fundamentals.

Less demand from institutional and hedge fund investors can cause the most concern. They can move huge blocks of stock in and out of their portfolios, which in turn can cause other smaller investors, especially day-traders, to panic.

Price drops in stock also trigger selling by people heavily invested in them, like corporate officers and other employees.  No one wants to ride a drop all the way to the bottom.  Better to cash out now and wait for the turn-around to higher prices.

You can still make money on a downward trend.  Short the stock if you think it'll keep dropping.  Then buy the shorted shares at a price below the level you shorted it.  Stocks are like craps.  If you can predict the outcome in advance, you can bet on it and win.

Simple answer to this question:  the reported drop in Nike's value is all based on market value of their stock.  The stocks are owned by investors, not Nike.  The stock only represents a portion of the company's net worth.  If they "lost" $4 million, that's based exclusively on the drop in their stock price.

Nike stock is up this year over 30%.  The drop this week is about 3-4%.  I don't think that'll destroy them.

Executions by police are a real thing and they statistically target significantly greater amounts of black people. It’s a known fact and if CK feels that strongly about it enough to sacrifice his career I find it commendable. Too many people today have lots of convictions but no balls to follow through like he did. Obsessive sports fans are generally living vicariously through their heroes to distract themselves from the emptiness of their own lives anyway, and we are all coming up against increasing risk of government violence as the middle class fades out of existence.

My criticism with Nike is that they rely on 3rd world sweatshop labor, which takes away jobs from the local economy and supports Chinese world conquest. If more people had real opportunities besides hustling then people wouldn’t have to turn towards the illicit trades just for survival. In that respect this latest campaign is kind of a sick ironic joke

The fact that they do use cheap labor, but their items still are expensive as shit, tells you that they're all about maximizing profits.

I guess you're including Black, Asian, Hawaiian, Native American, and all other ethnicities in your collective term "police," right?

Police do not statistically target black people. In fact, the number of unarmed black men and boys killed by police is about 2% of all those killed.  Statistics prove an officer is less likely to fire on a black individual than white, partially because they fear their decision being second-guessed by the media and the public.

Quote
In shootings in these 10 cities involving officers, officers were more likely to fire their weapons without having first been attacked when the suspects were white.
