Hey guys any idea on where the designated shoulder lane areas are located for motorcycles to use on heavy traffic times? Wanted to find out if any shoulder lane areas were assigned since school and all will be starting soon. If there's areas assigned would anyone try it?

In 1967, I rented a Triumph Bonneville and rode it around the whole island (Oahu).  Traffic was not so bad then.

After moving to Honolulu in 2006, immediately saw there was no way would I ride Oahu now other than north windward and north shore..  Bad enough inside a car.

I know H1 eastbound from Waipahu up until Aiea/H3. Only during morning hours. Keep your distance because car tires will pick up rocks.

Edit: This is the shoulder lane being opened for morning traffic till (I think) 8:30am.

If referring to lane splitting or shoulder driving, no.
Lane Splitting: §291C-153 Operating motorcycles on roadways laned for traffic (b) The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken. (c) No person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles.
If HOV (diamond) lane, yes.

Referring to this.  https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Archives/measure_indiv_Archives.aspx?billtype=HB&billnumber=2589&year=2018

I havent heard anything yet.  You'd have to call the State Dept of Trans for the status.   Probably not a priority for them

Kind of hesitant to try it, but it would really help with the commute going home from town side to Pearl City especially on Red Hill area.

The recent bill to make it through the ledge was about allowing the DOT to experiment with lane splitting, but it's not a requirement, and as far as I remember the DOT is not a big fan of lane splitting because it's somehow 'unfair' to other drivers even though it reduces the commute time for everyone.
