More like their new president gets it.  The citizens also got it long ago too.  New leadership and bringing power back to the people.  Damn Nazi/Fascist.

Now, Brazil is set to embark on an experiment that will determine what happens when you loosen gun restrictions in a country battling an overpowering wave of gun crime.

Will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

If it shows that crime rates lowered, then liberals will ignore it or say it's a 1 time thing.  If it doesn't play out, then they're going to say see told you.  So lose lose.

Well sure that's the expected reaction from liberals.  Even sources of data analysis needs to be looked at.  Take "studies" on crime in Australia after the gun ban there.  There are studies that appear to show different results.  In any case, it will be interesting to see what the stats are, assuming there will be unbiased reporting of stats, how numbers were obtained, etc.

Absolutely. Only problem is that it could take a decade or two to get a good feel for the longer lasting impacts.

And you can be sure all the law abiding citizens of this state won’t be carrying during that time either, but the CCCs will. (Constitutionally Carrying Criminals)
They have an exemption.

Not really, once Florida allowed CCW, crime started to decrease from the 1st year and compound every year after.  So they stopped keeping track after year 5 IIRC.

And I'm sure guns are cheap in Brazil.

Brasil gets it!
Hawaiian Democrats do not.
Hawaii Union police do not get it.
We live in fear.
Hawaii Democrats don't care an
only want to make it worse.
Too bad that missile threat wasn't real and we still
have to deal with Honolulu.

Bolsonaro's been in office for 15 days and Brazil got the right of all law-abiding citizens to own a firearm, and after two years all we got is a bumpstock ban. I'm just sayin'...

Note that despite the (by far) highest murder rate in the world, the majority (61%) of Brazilians oppose civilian gun ownership (according to some poll... wonder if it's the same polling organization that produced: 90% of Americans support "universal background checks"?).

Also, no one except government agents are allowed to carry outside the home (I consider "private security" who must be approved by the government to be government agents).

Brazil's Bolsonaro signs decree easing gun laws

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday signed a decree that will temporarily make it easier for Brazilians to buy guns, despite fears the move could aggravate already staggering violent crime.

The executive order, signed in a live television broadcast following a cabinet meeting, allows "good citizens" to more easily own firearms, said Bolsonaro, a former army captain.

"To guarantee the legitimate right of defense, as president I am using this weapon," he said, indicating the pen he then used to sign the decree.

The far-right president ran on a law-and-order platform. His message resonated with voters in Brazil, which in 2017 had a record 64,000 murders, more than any other country.

Tuesday's decree makes it much easier for adults with no criminal record to buy guns and keep them at home.

It does not extend to carrying weapons -- concealed or otherwise -- in public, which remains restricted to police, public or private security personnel, and the military.

A ministerial source told AFP that the new decree took effect immediately, without needing congressional approval.

Bolsonaro has said he wants to overturn a 2003 law that was tantamount to banning civilians from purchasing guns.

According to a survey published last month by the Datafolha firm, 61 percent of Brazilians are opposed to generalised gun ownership.

Brazil law is same as Hawaii.  You can buy the gun, but have to leave it at home.  How does that protect you from violent criminals who ignore the law?  Worthless declaration.

If you ever watch videos of South America robberies, many come in the form of 2 people on a motorcycle/scooter.  So if you see that and they're slowing down, that's a clue.  Gotta watchout when they also don't take off their helmets when entering stores.

but it's a start, they're moving in the right direction, unlike us here in Hawaii, e.g. Thielen's proposed  SB 1334.  Maybe next year Brazil will go for CCW?

we have data already. there was a gun buy back as well as gun reform laws in brazil in the early 2000's. crime rate skyrocketed after
