Woman With Concealed Carry Permit Fatally Shoots Robber On Far South Side (Read 2097 times)

Formerly disarmed outside their homes (McDonald, 2010) Illinois and Chicago residents now can defend themselves. I wasn't able to get a url to embed only the video, but the link to the story has the video, and it's worth watching to see the response of other people in the neighborhood who support the woman who was assaulted and robbed. The criminal died. The victim survived. Another happy ending story. Hawaii only wants bad ending stories, where the victims are disarmed and at a total disadvantage to the criminals. I'll ask again, how is a raped dead woman in an alley better than a woman explaining to cops how she was assaulted and that's how that dead guy got the bullets to the chest?

PS Four states this year have legislation, and a real chance of enactment, to eliminate the need for any license or permit to bear arms outside the home: Iowa, South Dakota, Texas and Oklahoma. They would join the other twelve already having permitless/"constitutional carry". Meanwhile, Hawaii still makes anyone who carries for self-defense a criminal subject to arrest, prosecution and imprisonment.

Woman With Concealed Carry Permit Fatally Shoots Robber On Far South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) — A woman shot and killed 19-year-old man Tuesday morning, after he tried to rob her in the Fernwood neighborhood on the Far South Side, police said.

Surveillance video shows the woman waiting alone at a bus stop at 103rd and Wallace around 5:45 a.m. Suddenly, she’s on the ground as a man runs around the corner. She then took off running down the street.

Police said a 19-year-old man had walked up to her, pulled out a weapon, and announced a robbery. The 25-year-old woman, who has a concealed carry license, pulled out her own gun and shot the robber in the neck.

Neighbors who heard what happened said the woman did what she had to do.

“In this day and age, they don’t care whether or not you’re a senior citizen, or you’re middle aged, or you’re a child. If they pull a gun on you, they intend to hurt you in some way, or take everything that you have worked for,” one woman said. “We don’t owe the offender anything.”

I was talking about that with a friend this past weekend.  The above is because public is generally ignorant and not aware of facts about use of force in self-defense situations.  The "we live in a safe place and it won't happen to me" and "I can call 911 so I don't need a gun" and I could go on.  Many also FEEL uncomfortable around a firearm because they aren't familiar or educated about them, so they have an irrational fear about them and leads to "guns kill, guns bad" being propagated.  Then you get into the "he didn't have a weapon, so why did you have to shoot him" and "you could shoot him in the leg to stop him" sorts of statements by the same folks.  Drive me nuts.

On top of what DRCK said, the other problem is Hawaii is very lucky so far.  How many stories are in the local news about someone dying due to being shot/stabbed by a criminal or home invasion.  Not as often as the mainland.  So when it does happen HPD always uses the "isolated incident" speel. The residents care less about people being hurt or raped because most news won't report it at all.

The hatchet attack this morning on nimitz, could have been prevented by a good guy with a gun.  Instead a 29 year old got hit in the back of the head and is critical.

In Hawaii, even if you had a permit to carry but was not LEO, you would probably get charged with man slaughter.  They expect you to give your hard earned $$ or possessions to any criminal who wants them.  Never mind if that means you would not make your rent this month and end up homeless or your family doesn’t have food on the table because some lazy punk stole from you.  The most important thing to the screwed up liberals running the state is that the criminal did not get hurt.  Only LEOs get a free pass on killing someone, not only in Hawaii, but nearly the whole country and calling the police for help can easily get you killed.  I will call the police AFTER the incident is over, not when it starts or during the event.  Besides, who has the time to call until the event is over.
