Also I wonder why SB621 isn't scheduled for a hearing with the other two firearm bills?  It's the one with the RAPBACK amendment so they could be reviewing and researching RAPBACK to schedule it by the 28th or they want to kill it and go with it's twin bill HB720
Yeah, it's too bad you can't just ask one of the legislators (committee chairpersons, etc.) who knows the reason and have them give you a simple honest answer. Obviously, that's not the way things work around here.

Corrected my post, Sb621 next deadline is April 5th.

No oral testimony will be taken at today's hearing.  Written only.  Continue to submit your testimony online if you haven't already.

Also no oral testimony for Thursday's hearing, just written.

funny, they call it a "hearing", but nobody to talk.  not much to hear if nobody talks.  yeah, I know, but a touch of irony there.  I submitted written.

Current bills status

SB600 is going to a floor vote in the House on Thursday so contact your House district representatives to oppose.  At the same time, tell them to oppose SB1466 which will be coming up for a floor vote next week.

HB720 and likely HB1541 will have a floor vote in the Senate next week.

SCR42 is dead as of last week due to not being heard in committee.  SR29 is still alive but unlikely to be scheduled for committee too.

This Friday is the Decking Deadline where bills must have completed all their committees.  This is likely to kill off SB621 w/rapback amendment, and HB1325 the last pro-hunting bill.

Planning to make a stand to defeat SB1466 Red Flag later this month, which would be an achievement as it was introduced nationwide and in Congress.

I've been out of the loop for a couple weeks ever since my error.  Been burned out working 65 hour week and putting in another 20 hours for Hifico for the past 6 months.  Been nice to experience life again for a couple weeks.

Back to work.

HB720 "Lost/Stolen/Destroyed Gun Reporting" got signed into law.  Everyone looks so happy (maybe not the guy on the far left.  Probably thinking "I better report my lost gun").  Governor says "...will.protect firearm owners if their lost or stolen firearm was used in a crime.”  I can't imagine the constitutionality of losing your gun rights forever from a law like this.

SB600 and SB1466 have passed conference committee and is on the Governor's desk.  Email, phone, or meet with him or his staff here:  https://governor.hawaii.gov/contact-us/.

Should this bill pass, I wonder if we can get a photo op with the Governor too?

HB1541 had a late night hearing today beating the deadline.  Status isn't updated, but if it passed conference committee then it will go for a House/Senate floor vote on Tuesday or Thursday.

Today was the deadline for conference committee, so any bill not passed committee is dead.  Then May 2nd is the last day of the legislature and for floor votes.

Lying tyrant scum traitors. String 'em all up. I vote for a "red flag" law to be enacted so we can "take care" of these people via ex parte hearings based upon someone's sole report of traitorism. What say ye all?

The 2019 Legislative session ended on May 2nd and out of the 55 firearm/hunting/other bills I was tracking, 1 was signed into law (HB720) and 2 others are still on the Governor's desk (SB600 and SB1466).

I'm working on compiling the stats and analysis in preparation for 2020.  In the meantime you can look over your representative's voting record for the committee hearings (J=Judiciary P=Public Safety) and the floor votes.

Hey zippz, thanks for tabulating all that bad news into one convenient form... that way it will be easier to assign "ratings/grades" to all the legislators: F-, F, or F+... I'm still dreaming of the day we get a "D" legislator... yeah, I said it was a dream.

A question for you, which you may not want to answer in public... do you think the large number of bills this year, some of them exorbitantly infringing, was a planned strategy or just a coincidence?

It was a nationwide attack on the 2A.  Nothing is coincidence.  Expect another high casualty active shooting prior to the next session.  The DNC knows emotion wins laws.  Bump stock after Vegas, red flag after MSD.  Maybe nationwide mag limits next?  "Assault weapons" takes more stepping stones to ban.

WA passed 7 laws the gov just signed last week.  Nothing major, but stepping stones to more laws.  Nevada gov signed FFL law that was just sitting for 2 years.  Not to mention all the red flag laws that were signed across the nation.

Well, we have nothing to worry about, I mean except that we're bitter clingers... at least according to The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence (RICAGV), who in opposing a local resolution to declare a city a "Second Amendment sanctuary" wrote that "Law-abiding gun owners though should have no reason to feel threatened by the gun safety measures that community organizers advocate for, and in fact, all regulations--from banning guns in schools to banning military style assault weapons are constitutional." That's so good to know... for a second there I thought maybe someone might try and infringe my rights... you know, like the ones to keep and bear arms. I'm so relieved.

Not sure, but I believe Everytown and their subgroups were involved.  It's a nationwide thing.  They are growing more powerful every year, getting more skilled supporters, and most if all, getting better funding.

Also that firearm research report enabled lawmakers to add a few home grown bills which is why we opposed the gun violence research center which would out out more worthless bills for us to fight.  Also the carry and taser court cases added more too.

The GMAC hunting committee and other hunting groups are getting more involved and put in a bunch of bills

Gov will announce the bills he intends to veto at 2pm today  Still have sb600 and sb1466.  Bills not announced will become law without his signature.

It will be streamed on Facebook live at facebook.com/governordavidige

How come the law doesn't say anything the gov doesn't signed is automatically withdrawn?  That makes more sense to me.

Should be in the Constitution.  I don't know the history or reasoning behind it.  It's the same for the President.

The Gov didn't go over the gun bills during the livefeed.  We'll find out  shortly when the full list is released.
