Not sure if this is the right place for this, but there's a bill circulating to eradicate axis deer on maui lanai molokai.  So if you deer hunt, they snuck a bill in to try to axe hunting of axis deer.

Doesnt matter since they are making it illegal to keep a firearm in a hotel.  The 800 out of state hunting licenses per year.  The businesses that do hunting trips on Lanai will be gone. 

we dont want those people paying for food lodging and entertainment since Hawaii is not about tourists.  Lanai does not need that business.

I grew up on Molokai.  A lot of the people there need deer for sustenance hunting.  Deer was never a problem when I was living there.  They can eradicate the deer on Maui, but leave the deer on Moloka'i and Lana'i alone.

I agree that Molokai people are not friendly and are very suspicious of strangers.  How it got the name "Friendly Isle" is beyond me.  I asked my wife if she wanted to move to Molokai from Oahu and she said the only outer island she would move to is the BI.  She is from Kauai.  There was giraffe, eland and pronghorn antelope there before.  I don't know what happened to them.

Bro, this is going to seriously hurt the economies on molokai and lanai, not to mention the fact  residents use the venison for food.  The antigun -hippies snuck this provision into the bill.  They try to axe or throw roadblocks into the hunting program every year, but dont think I've seen the invasive species angle before.  If you have friends/family on lanai/molokai, please tell them they need to testify to kill this provision of the bill.    I'm pretty sure hunters on maui would be up in arms about the bill.... if they actually knew about it.

I used to work on Molokai in the 70's. I also hunted and fished there regularly in the 80s and 90s. Back in the day it was a very friendly place. Most of the friends and relatives I knew back then have passed on. These were the kind of people who would quickly help anyone with out expecting anything in return.

 I really believe that development started to change peoples attitudes. Most of the new homes built were beyond the reach of many. Molokai Ranch was sold to a foreign based company that wanted to build luxury lots on the west end. The water to sustain this project would have to be piped in from the other side of the island. Molokai Ranch was willing to set aside land and shore line area for the local population. Negotiations were at a dead end. The company that owned Molokai Ranch then decided to shut down not just the ranch, but all of its operations on Molokai. This hurt the people since Molokai Ranch was the largest employer on the island. There were other conflicts involving land use on Molokai.

What idiot decided to eradicate the deer on Molokai and Lanai? I would like to know who is responsible for doing this. As stated earlier many people depend on the deer for food. Deer hunting also creates an important source of income for the communities.

I was talking to.some.gun guys on Maui.  They said hunting deer is important to them.  However the deer are hurting the farmers by eating the crops.  It's hard to fence them out since deer can jump over 6 feet high and can break through standard fence.  The deer are also reproducing very fast and expanding out of control.

I just got back from Molokai. The company that owns Molokai Ranch is now trying to sell. The asking price is 200 million.
