Was reading through the comments and I saw pretty much 90% against and maybe 5% for.  The remaining 5% were non-sense replies or not related.  So much misinformation on the term "assault weapon" and perpetuation of the irrational fear behind those words, usually coming from those totally ignorant of firearms in general.  I noticed many that voiced opposition don't live here though.

It's good how some commented that "assault weapons" are already illegal and have been for a while now.

The current set of bills that are with the legislators would ban any semi automatic rifle with a detachable magazine. This would equate to a ban on around 90% of rifles.

It lists a set of features that encompass all rifles and not one of these features would make a Firearm more dangerous. They even included a grenade launcher (something already banned in the state) to make the bills appear more credible.

In fact not having some of the features would make the use of a firearm more dangerous, a firearm that does not fit the shooter, makes a firearm harder to control and aim safely.

Hawaii Firearms coalition strongly opposes these infringing bills that do nothing to sever the community. Instead we  call on the legislators to enforce our current laws and to focus on deterring the criminal use of firearms.

There are currently more then one million firearms in the state of Hawaii, yet we have some of the lowest gun crime rates in the country. The laws we have now (if infringing on the rights of its citizens) are working and we do not believe these bills would have any effect other then to turn thousands of law abiding citizens into felons overnight.

Or maybe the person who was assigned to find a pic, is pro 2A and didn't want to put a scary looking black gun.

at least they didn't use a pic of the rap-gangster glorified Glock, or tiger-striped Desert Eagle, although the later would be accurate as banned by SB1334/HB1303.

who knows, maybe by 2020, the way things are going, the presidential elections will be done on FB (or Tweeter), you know, going paperless, electronic era, social media, smart apps, all of that, that way all the illegals can vote (once, twice...).  So if you ain't on Tweeter or FB, you're not going to be able to vote for Trump.

Defunct polling stations will be on display in the Smithsonian (and at the Bishop Museum).  They'll probably have a couple set up so the chilluns' can see how grandpa used to vote, complete with simulated counting errors.

votes submitted via arfcom will be mysteriously lost (your cricketeers), whereas votes submitted via DU, MSNBC, or CNN will arrive by the tractor-trailer container load.  That's the future.  a form of vote harvesting (seriously) being used nowadays, but to be taken to the next level and perfected in the next few years.

The comments on thei FB surprised me.  100-2 or so do not support the AWB.  A few asked for the definition and was told they're already illegal (full auto) and then said they don't support it.  Wish our law makers would read the comments.

Seems like more people are getting fed up with the crime and want to be able to defend themselves. I've noticed this trend on SSH also.  Where about a year ago, it was more 50/50.  Maybe FB forgot to censor the comments?

I think we are reaching a point where we are sick of "bans". Its a poor solution to a problem. Not very smart lawmakers. Elementary school authoritarian approach to control behaviors.

ban fireworks - black market fireworks
ban bumpstocks - none got turned in so we must not have had any
ban cigarettes? - black market cigarettes sold by GI's, huge nicotine crops in the forests pop up.
ban sun tan lotion? - whole ton of tourists showing up with banned suntan lotion
ban drugs - we all know how well that worked
ban cockfighting - everyone and their brother has a 100 little chicken homes on their front lawn that are legal because one chicken per coop = pet chicken
ban annoying birds in a state park in Hawaii - what really?  thats a law? yep
ban 2 glasses of beer on your table in front of you at a restaurant - really now?  does that work? what??
ban putting coins in your ear or putting a tattoo behind your ear in hawaii.  Oh come on now.... Im must be making this up - nope.

and finally, in the Island state of beaches and tourists - ban wearing swimming trunks by themselves in public.

lazy ass legislatin'

I'm not too good at using this site but this is from a previous comment.

I will start to import fully auto AK's into Hawaii at that point.  Also maybe RPG 7A's.  Possibly MP5's.
Since the Democrats passing the laws don't see any difference between those and a Ruger 10-22,
you may as well go for broke!  P.S. I won't ask permission to buy, nor will I register my new toys.
I know right where to go to get them and have the means to do so.
I'll bet the cops really will bust butt to chase me down and make Hawaii safer.
I'm being sarcastic of course, but once you make everyone a criminal then,  what the heck?

Us outer island people are really frustrated with Honolulu's unchecked tyranny.

Same thing with bumpstocks.   if a bumpstock is considered the same as a drop in auto sear with respect to legality, why use a dumb bumpstock when you can make a full auto DIAS out of a coat hanger.  If someone is going to commit mass murder, why bother with the inferior illegal device?

I'm pretty sure there is another group out there that wants to ban "coat hangers".

and sheet metal for lighting links....

same as the 3D printed guns.  they are still trying to ban the release of files for 3D printed firearm parts that have already been made freely available on the web for over a year now.   might as well try to ban lava in Hawaii.  Though I would certainly be for stuffing as many politicians as possible into the volcano to see if that works.
