In my experience, I've seen more negligent discharges with 1911 type of  pistols.

Not sure on the pistol he was using.  But in all cases that I have witnessed personally, involved complacency.   Best way to avoid a negligent discharge, is not not have a round chambered, unless you have the intent of using it.

What? So are you saying that you should carry a firearm without a round in the chamber or that if i do carry with one in the pipe that i am intent on using it?

My memory is not that great these days. But I seem to remember a big recall by Ruger for the early models of the Single Six. As a matter of fact I think they will still retrofit an early model if you have one. And my understanding is it will not hurt the collector value.

I would think that the 1911 or any SA for that matter is far more prone to ND than any DA
Glocks are possibly another contender as you need to dry-fire in order to field-strip. Yes yes it shouldn't happen if people aren't careless but given the same carelessness with a Sig, that wouldn't happen. Simply because Sigs don't need to be dry-fired to field-strip.
Then there's the Nambu Type 94. I found a rumor online that this thing can go off just by squeezing the frame. If proven true, this is a ND waiting to happen.

That is the safest coarse of action for yourself and others around you.  Did that during my deploymet as a gunner searching for ied's. With no deaths or injuries in my truck.  I does not take more then a second to pull a charging handle or slide.  Best to use that second to assets the situation before you do something you might regret for the rest of your life

This was very informative and understandable. I appreciate your posting it. While I don't see myself practicing with 2 different guns and rigs on the same day, it is quite easily understandable why this occurred. It is actually too easy to do and scary to think it can happen to anyone. I doubt it would have happened if he had practiced first with the 1911 and then the Glock.

LOL...I'm pretty sure he did and it's something that all responsible gun owners should agree on. The guy is an idiot. Sure accidents happen, but posting his stupidity only added to the stigma associated with firearms and the people who own them.


 

Had an old 'girlie' pistol (polished chrome w/ pearl grips) from a friend back in the day...something like a Jennings J25. Bad manufacturing left a defect with the firing pin retainer, so if you worked the action while holding it a certain way, a round would fire as soon as the slide closed. Basically a full auto pistol if you held it at that angle.

bad advice.

Thats  you on deployment. You have others with weapons and are not likely to encounter an assailant at 21 feet or less.

What happens if you panic and forget to chamber, what if they have the advantage of surprise?

Might as well holster a brick and carry it instead.

You won't have to worry bout it going off accidentally. Could always throw it as last resort.

I would say Glock. First, because of the need to pull the trigger to disassemble, and second, because of the lack of a visible hammer.
