Well to be fair, he was one of the biggest slave owners out there right?  How many white guys can you name besides him with the last name Washington.  Now how many black guys can you name with the last name Washington.  I watch some NCAA football and it's a common last name on the back of the jerseys.

If you're insinuating all those black guys are descendants of George Washington, they aren't.

When the slaves were freed, many of them had no last names. They chose a last name when asked for one. Many chose what they considered to be respected and meaningful names that also were respected by whites.

Freeman was a very popular choice. More often than not, the freed slaves used the family name of their owners.
