NRA: UPDATE 4/29 LaPierre, all others (re-)elected UNANIMOUSLY! (Read 9568 times)

punaperson

Might as well start a separate thread for this, as it has now become it's own story now that LaPierre has made a public statement... funny... didn't hear Cam or Dana or Grant talking about this... but I haven't listened to all the segments from today's shows... must be a fun-filled "annual meeting"!

LaPierre's three page letter is here: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5979828/Wayne-LaPierre-NRA-board-letter.pdf

He claims NRA Board chairman Oliver North asked him to resign and attempted to extort him claiming he had a letter that was personally very damaging.

Here is The Trace (yeah, one of Bloomberg's pet projects) brief article: https://www.thetrace.org/2019/04/nra-wayne-lapierre-resign-oliver-north/

That's what happens when you bring on a treacherous drug dealing war criminal. I say get rid of them both and let Dana have her shot.

Dana is paid by and works for the same ad agency that is involved with this scandal.

The ad agency is so closely tied with the NRA that what you see may not be what you think it is.

Some background about what's happening in the NRA right now.  There's an internal rebellion and possible scandals that has resurfaced with the leadership and their ad agency Ackerman McQueen which has gone back a couple decades.  One of the reasons for forming HIFICO last year.

I got a couple reps attending the NRA annual meeting today.  I'll see if they can post what happened.

It will be interesting to see what the truth is.  If LaPierre's accusations are true then AM is in deep shit.

That's too bad because she is a great public speaker and handles pressure well. I don't see the higher offices as more than over-paid figure heads anyway.

Sorry to hear that my long-held suspicions of the organization were confirmed to not only be true but went way beyond what I had imagined. But as people have pointed out all over the country the NRA has abandoned important state initiatives that have led to calamitous precedents and has effectively become just another a parasite riddled fundraising pac for the GOP.

Our money may have been wasted, but the ammoland article raises a great point that we are still a very powerful grass roots lobby and now that the corruption has been exposed we can make better choices. Hopefully that leads to more victories now that less time and energy will be diverted into fundraising scams. A better model would be local and state organizations that can band together rather than focus all our attention on a national "fix it for me daddy" rights group. Giving money is not the same as active participation.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

LaPierre allegedly has conflict of interest with AM.  Maybe not conflicts of interest but AM did build up LaPierre whom has an oversized salary and allowed all this stuff to happen on his watch.

So in regards today's meeting. Lt. Col. North was not in attendance. Childress read his (polite but encoded) resignation letter to a silent crowd. It seems to me that the majority of the members attending the meeting haven't really been following the controversy(the average age of people in the room was probably around seventy). The crowd cheered La Pierre and were definetly standing behind him. Towards the end of the meeting some members did try to bring up the issue but the board members weren't having. The only thing they said was that the issue would be dealt with on Monday at a board meeting. Those who oppose the current brass were basically told not to air the dirty laundry in front of the media. I was in and out of different seminars the whole day so I couldnt watch much of the NRA TV broadcast but from what I got from the crowd was that they made no mention of the controversy(most people I asked had no idea of what was going on until I told them).  I don't think we're  going to hear what's really going on behind the scenes.

I read through the links of all the material this caught my eye and exquisitely states our problems as
gun owners and gun rights defenders.
"If you’re in a war and your commanders are doing something you disagree with, you don’t just go up and question them".
I'm a Life NRA member and a year to year GOA member.  I don't like NRA politics of "go along to get along" and I know
millions are being wasted  making a few people very rich on our desperation and fear of Democrat policies.
GOA is suitably rational, but doesn't have the resources to carry the fight very far.
Our problem is that we don't have a "go for the throat " organization we all can support.
I don't want to talk to Democrats about their gun laws, I want to obliterate their laws,  their ability
to enforce those laws,  and the political careers of those that pass those laws,  all legally if possible.
Democrats do what I just described in my last sentence replacing "Democrats" with "gun owners" to us.
NRA is helping Democrats by not fighting locally, and some in the NRA ruling class know we are afraid to
lose the few gains we have made, so we are stuck.
I will continue to obey the laws. I also plan for the day Hawaii
orders the confiscation of all registered weapons.  You will hand them in,
it will take you years in the overwhelmed courts to get them back, and when you
do they will be rusted beyond use after being stored out in the open, in the
rainiest parts of Hawaii.  No one will be held accountable.

The FUDDS love LaPierre. I am aware of The issues why some people don't trust North, but I was looking foward to some house cleaning. Not sure what to believe yet but the old guard are definetly standing together. I started reading more about the controversy when I got back to the hotel and I think it's important to note that the majority of the media attention that this story is getting is coming from the lefty news sites(obviously trying to sow division).

Watching the NRA start to implode as the wolves circle the fence.

The wolves have their own vulnerabilities. One of their most exploitable vulnerabilities is they pay too much attention to SJW causes while their cherished Safe Space Sanctuary Cities crumble into decaying blight full of homeless feces and dirty needles. They are creating the conditions where carrying firearms will be necessary at all times, and the majority of the population living outside of guarded gated communities is starting to notice.

I'm reposting these here from another thread in another section. These were posted a few days ago, before the mainstream media got hold of the story.

In the first case, of the NRA approved "restrictions_ (aka "infringements") the claim has always been that had the NRA not been involved, and gotten "compromises", the outcomes would have been "worse". I guess it's a personal opinion whether the top 6 or 8 people at the NRA "ought" to be earning 7 figure, or very near 7 figure, salaries and benefits, and if nearly 40% of their after salary budget goes to fundraising is a wise expenditure.

A couple of comments by high-ranking NRA members about the refusal of NRA to address the issue in their public meeting... I guess there could be a there there...

“We don’t want to give the other side any more information than they already have,” said Tom King, a board member from New York for more than a decade.

Offered Marion Hammer, a former NRA president and longtime lobbyist from Florida: “The life’s blood of this organization is on the line. We are under fire from without. We do not need to be under attack from within.”

There is a lot to unpack here given the revelations of the past few days.  IMHO - The NRA under LaPierre and Cox have transformed the landscape in this country over the past 40 years in favor of increasing gun rights.  There is a lot to criticize to be damn sure, however, I am not ready to vote out a winning team until a new leadership emerges with how they can do any better than the current leadership.

If the top six people volunteer to work for an annual salary of ONLY $300,000 that will free up around 4 MILLION dollars that could be used to pay attorneys to litigate. But I guess that money could all be wasted if they adopt the same losing strategies as they did in Peruta, et al. Never mind.

(Besides, SAF claims THEY are responsible for at least 80% of the successful gun rights litigation...)

I think it's time for LaPierre to move on and bring in some new blood. for many reasons

He's held his position for 30 years and I think he did a good job overall.  It's time for someone else to come in with a new vision and ideas for the future.  The NRA is starting to modernize, but still seems stuck in the past.  I see the same for local gun organizations here where the President has been in their position for a long time, there is no emphasis on mentoring new leaders, and no one is willing to step up.

The NRA spends money inefficiently for a non-profit.  Lapierre does do a lot but he shouldn't have a million dollar salary in a non-profit that we make donations to.  $300k or $400k seems more reasonable which is double what our Governor gets paid.  Also their "consultants" who also get million dollar salaires.  Per the article, even Dana Loesch gets paid a million.  And they dare to raise membership dues before trimming the fat?

But in the end, it's the fault of the NRA members just as how voters in Hawaii are at fault for who is elected to office and our current situation.  We vote in the directors who then elect the officers.  Often times we vote for the person who is the loudest and popular instead of the ones who will do the right thing.  We have to hold the leadership accountable.  And most of all, we have to take an active role instead of sitting on the sidelines and watching and complaining.
