Howdy,
I would be very cautious about moving to Las Vegas.
Or any place in Nevada.
My friend in Nevada tells me that it is becoming Liberal  and has recently
passed anti 2a legislation.
We have been to LV and we didn't like it.
Wife has sister in Austin, she and several others reccomended
Texas Hill Country.
We went to Texas to check out Hill Country.
Fell in love with small town Texas.
We ended up in Fredericksburg, best small town in Hill Country.
I think living in a small town beats city living anytime.
Homes with acreage is much cheaper than getting  a nice
place in LV, especially if you like to shoot by opening your back door.
Surprisingly, small towns have lots of things to do and special events.
If I was thinking of moving, look at Texas Hill Country.
Two of my best friends  stayed with us last month.
Both told us that If they could swing it,
they would move to Hill Country.
Just suggesting an alternative  to LV.

LV will be a place to monitor for the next few years.  With all the libs moving there from CA and voting the same way.  Plus the Raiders stadium coming up so property prices slowing increasing.  But last I checked there were 8K homes on the market still.  Many choose to build brand new than buy someone elses home.  Even though they were built in the last 10 years.

Was talking with many friends about this the past year. Utah, Idaho and Montana are appealing to me. Family was keeping me here until recently. I’m more “free”, but my job situation is really good now, as in great hours and quality of life for decent pay. Enough that I can live comfortably, but how for how long?

They certainly look good during the summer, but I would be not sure about the winters.

Yeah. I’ve lived in WA state for many years and the cold was ok. The snow and freezing roads were not tho.

Maybe summer house up there and winter house in AZ. 🤔

Good thing the mormans just allowed caffeine to be consumed or Utah would be out for me.

My first draft choice would be Vegas, because there is a strong Hawaii culture there so when you do get home sick, you can just go downtown.  And probably run into people you know.  I heard Utah has a pretty big Hawaii culture as well.

But were about 30 years away from retiring.

Still working on the wife about Arizona.  I have my eye on areas above 5,000 feet.  Yeah, some do get snow but not for long.   Summers do not seem much worse than here, and no humidity.  Sick of all my tools rusting.

I hear ya. Tools, guns stuff, even a bunch of stainless knives.

The 110-120 summers kill me too though. Hopefully Vegas won’t be that hot in about 2 weeks. 😩

A friend of mine just told me last night that he and the wife are planning to move to Vegas.  Native Hawaiians, both born and raised here.  He said Hawaii is too expensive.  Told him I hope to be able to join him in a couple of years.

You are thinking Phoenix temperatures.  Norther AZ up in the hills/mountains is not nearly as hot.  Places like Show Low, Payson, etc.  But, they get snow.

Gotcha. My AZ ignorance coming out. Haha

A few HS buddies live up there. Think northern area as they aren’t that far from Vegas. They were showing me pics of their homes and what they can get for X amount of $$$. So jealous.

Another buddy is moving back to GA after retiring from the Corps. He was telling me when he bought land in 2012ish, it was something like $30/acre. I was like, “I’ll take 1000 acres”!  Probably swamp land, but hey. 😝😜

The heat doesn't bother me because everywhere has AC.  So you're only exposed to the heat from the car to your front door or the stores front door.

Now shooting outside is a diff story, but I'll put up with the heat to be allowed to own NFA stuff.

But that's correct, majority of the people I know who moved to the mainland WA, NV, AZ, OR all bought homes after about a year or so.  The CA morons, not so much.  Some are even onto buying their 2nd home.

I too wouldn't be worried about the heat with AC and since I am retired, I don't have to be working in the heat.  I would rent for at least a year or two, to make sure if I did buy a place I would be happy living there.

I asked a cab driver how come no more construction workers after 2pm in Vegas, and he said, they call it a day.  It gets to hot.  This was summer time.

Roofers in Hawaii rarely work later than 2:30pm.  A rooftop is not the ideal location to work during the hottest part of the day.
