Wouldn't be a false alarm if a few tents also happen to be on fire.

Hypothetically, of course.

A group of singers have produced a feel-good song about the "sacred" mauna. It's the fashionable thing to do nowadays.
I have to wonder if these fashionable people have any idea what kind of financial burden the blockade is hoisting on the entire state as well as the people and businesses on the Big Island?

Yes, I have substantial Hawaiian blood in me and I am proud be Hawaiian, but I'm not stupid either.
This crap is costing EVERYBODY money.... and for what?
I feel like refusing to pay any taxes until this unnecessary madness is cleared out.
Why should we coddle these people? They can protest all they want on the side of the road.

OK I'm done ranting

My Hawaiian friend is in agreement with you. He also mentioned that our state is far from distress and that the TMT would be a good thing for the State. He also mentioned that while culture is important to sustain we need marketable skills for our children.
Interesting as my relatives from Tahiti stopped by this weekend. I didn't realize how socialist Tahiti is and they are heavily dependent on tourism.

hmmm...environment sounds familiar to ours... unions....

On the Governor website, David Ige said the protesters say they will not compromise, so that leaves the state with few options and as governor I have to enforce the law.  After 10 years of legal wrangling, the courts have ruled that the TMT has the legal right to proceed.  So I wonder what that means.  Will he finally order that the road be cleared?  I have my doubts about that, but he may surprise me.

Even more important.....

What makes you think all the protestors on Mauna Kea are on Section 8 housing and receive government assistance?

In fact, there are a number of Hawaiians on the mauna who are very highly educated and working professionals, who are smart enough not to make such socio-economically racist comments like yours.

Negative stereotype yes. Racist no.
I won't hire you because you are of <insert race here>. = Racism
I won't rent my apartment to you because of your race.  = Racism

I believe the ones that are highly educated and professionals are seeking opportunity out of this circus. The OHA trustees, the actors, the musicians, are using this as a platform to further opportunities for THEMSELVES. "look at me".
If flying flags upside down in the bed of the white man's truck on weekends is the extent of this "movement" it will not gain any traction. Making a song? See above.
Protest something with a little more substance. A military base? A large commercial development? Luxury condos? A rail project that desecrates the aina every day. The homeless that shit all over the land. The motorcross bikes that tear up the countryside.

I did not say all. I personally know some up there that are receiving government assistance.  I also realize that some are highly educated, but being highly educated does not necessarily make you a “smart” person.  And I will and have called people of my own race stupid for actions that they have done.  I have done stupid stuff in the past that I wish I hadn't, but this political correctness and racist bullshit makes me sick.  People are afraid to tell it like it is because they might offend someone.  My wife's grandparents were pure Hawaiian and she also thinks the protesters are wrong as do many other Hawaiians.  Polls have shown that the overwhelming majority of Hawaii residents favor building the TMT.  Among native Hawaiians 48% oppose, 44% are in favor and the 8% are either unsure or don't care one way or the other.

Remember H3?  Mile for mile the most expensive highway ever built?  A lot of that was due to protesters of a certain ethnic group bringing decades of legal challenges concerning their sacred valley.  I'll bet you those same ones are happy to use that highway and enjoy the magnificent views of windward Oahu while driving on it.  A half Hawaiian friend of mine called the ones of his ethnicity stupid a-holes when they were protesting building the first 7-11 in Kaaawa.  He later told me those are the ones he always see there buying Big Gulp, hot dogs, beer, cigarettes and spam musubi.

The poster referred to all the Kanaka lolos on the mauna meaning all the Hawaiians on the mauna are all lolo.  Second, he commented on how all the Kanaka lolos dependence on Section 8 housing and food stamps will greatly affect their long-term ability to maintain their protest, which is incorrect in that there are professional lawyers, doctors, college professors, etc. who have and continue to protest on Mauna Kea that are not affiliated with the ilk of OHA and others who just want to make a name for themselves.

Very socio-economically racist comment to me.

Where did I say “all”?
Let me put it this way.  If I said all the low IQ kids go public school, does that mean all the kids that go public school get low IQ?  If I said the stupid kids at _____ high school vandalized the gym, does that mean all the kids at _____ high school vandalized the gym?

I know a male dancer in a halau on Oahu who twice went to the mauna to dance in a protest.  His reason?  Free trip to the BI.  He told me he doesn’t give a shit what happens over there, but when he was offered a free trip to dance hula there, he couldn’t resist.  This was during the previous protest, not the current one.  Some may be up there because it currently is the “cool” thing to do.  It will be a lot cooler in a couple of months.

I know there are some Kanaka who are also lolo that have gone to Mauna Kea.  If you added an additional phrase clarifying that you meant only a certain portion of the kanaka on the mauna as being lolo, your meaning would have been much clearer.

The August 21 report said Hawai’i County spend $3.3 million on costs from July 15 to August 19.  The Att Gen Office said they spend $600,000 and another agency $173,000.  That is $4 million already up to August 19.   No wonder they cannot fix the few potholes on Hwy 11 between Volcano and Hilo.

No need to apologize; just a misunderstanding.

By-the-way, if there is someone who is anti-Hawaiian, it must be me, since I openly share my hatred for OHA, remember.    :shaka:

Kuleana - Are you opposed to TMT based on primarily TMT issues? Such as the Mauna being sacred, or other TMT driven reasons. Or primarily based on what happened in the past and TMT is a “current events” line in the sand?

Not that you need a reason, nor do all opposed to TMT need to ha aligned with a single reason.

As you should be.  OHA is complicit with this state's corrupt government, that screw not only Hawaiians, but everyone else in this state.

At this point might be cheaper to helicopter all the construction goods up.  Or stick it in armored vehicles with a plow on them and ignore all obstacles.
