Nevada college shooting prevented?
« on: August 29, 2019, 05:06:03 PM »
PD found 1 rifle and 2k of ammo based off a tip. Student says he forgot his guns were in his car on campus parking lot.

Its illegal federal and state to have a gun, even locked in a case inside a car on a school campus.  Only with written permission from admin can a NV ccw holder carry on campus (parking lot included).

I think guy chickened out and his friend called in the tip. So had he gone through, PD would have arrived too late.

Another possibility is gun and ammo were in back seat and someone saw it and called. But then how could the owner "forget". If they were in his trunk, then how would a "tip" be called in? Option 2 is a stretch.

Waiting for more info.

Hmmm... 2000 rounds is a lot to forget you had in a car. Impossible to tell his intentions at this point.

If he did have something in mind though, good thing he never went through with it. If it was his plan I wonder what stopped him?

My point exactly, he didn't have a few mags, but 2 cases of ammo which is also very heavy.  And even in NV, 1 case of cheap 223 can run you $235 with coupon.

And it is legal to leave your firearm inside your vehicle, unlike here.  Glove box also is fine, but that's still a no go on campus.  And NV has no ammo law, unlike here where ammo is treated the same as a firearm.

Waiting for more details.

If the ammo was loaded in mags they would have a stronger case but just the factory box would be much harder to prove intent. No one is going to single shot an ar15 to do a school killing spree

Ammo in mags are not illegal, even on college campus. NV has no places to keep law for ammo. No ccw required to carry ammo on ones person. So in mag, in box, on floor, wont matter for his case.

When i checked my gun at planet hollywood, security said i can keep my 3 mags. I didnt and left it with them, plus my 1 rd that was chambered.

When i first carried there i found no ammo law. Called metro multiple times and asked  if they have a places to keep law for ammo. They all laughed and said the 2a is my places to keep law.

Is there any credible information on this?
I read various posts about the kid worked at a range and the 2000 rounds of ammunition was 22LR, which would be 4 bricks.

I have shot 2000 rds of 22LR in a weekend.  Some of you have probably shot that much in one outing.

WAAAAYYY more information is needed for me to have an opinion on this. I know many whom live in the area a lot of them have "trunk guns". I can completely see some instances where this mistake could happen.

The mentality in many states in the US is extremely different than those that live in Hawaii. It is completely legal in some states to drive around with loaded firearms in your vehicle. They don't walk around on pins and needles like here. More info needed.

I grew up on Maui back in the 60's and 70's.
…..Not unusual to have us high school boys driving around with air guns, 22's or shotguns.
No mass shootings.
Just dead birds
...yes we did eat them.

I agree!!

Reading more about this incident, it sounds like the young man was too lazy to take his rifle to a safe place before going to class. I'm sure he's done it before. Yes he did something illegal, It does not sound like a mass shooting was prevented. Stories say he works at Rifle Dynamics, ammo was in bulk containers of 22lr and 7.62.

Just watched on amazon the ian mccollum red oktober 2016 AK shoot. Rifle Dynamics was a host who help set it up. Looks super fun.

Regardless if lazy, he has to know the law. Like that guy who picked up his wife at macys alamoana after the range. Went to starbux and got his trunk broken into. IIRC, hes still in jail.

Rifle and ammo were in trunk, but mags were in back seat. Someone called it in.

In trunk was a 22 and black ak. 22 ammo in can had his name on it.  Said he went to the range earlier that day. So lazieness on his part.

PD approached him as he left class walking and he stated just as they walked up to him "i know what this is about. I work at RD".

He also has a NV ccw.  To bad NV not like TX where CCw holders are allowed to keep guns in car on campus property.

$20 says new dnc gov tells prosecution to throw the book at him.

Is there more to this story? I know a guy who stopped to eat before heading to the range. His car was broken into and firearms stolen. HPD wasn't happy with him but as far as I know, no criminal charges were filed.

Sorry, I meant that if they were going to try and prove he intended to shoot up the school then loose rounds in a box would be harder to prove intent than a loaded mag.
