My 3.0 GPA in high school wasn't enough to get into the college however with a higher SAT score it might have made the difference in getting in. Once in it wouldn't be very hard to maintain a 2.0 needed to graduate. No idea whether the college would have given me extra benefit for my "adversity". I am not the type to play that card so I didn't really look into it.
If you only had a 3.0 GPA in HS, it explains why your SAT wasn't higher. You said a higher score "might" have made the difference. So that's just you speculating. You never bothered to discuss it with an admissions counselor or administrator at the school just to see if your assumption was correct? You might be carrying that around, and you could very well be plain wrong.
Also, if you think a 2.0 college GPA just to eek out a diploma from a university is a good value for your tuition, someone has been lying to you. Nowadays, you have to provide an official, certified copy of your transcripts to a new employer. #1 reason is because too many people lie about having a diploma, specific degree or GPA. #2 reason is to see how you performed, primarily in your major, compared to other applicants and to see if you have the right knowledge for the job.
A high SAT score that you couldn't get to compensate for an average GPA? That's two indicators of what level of work you would do in college. You were fortunate a rich parent didn't bribe your way into a top university. You'd have been miserable trying to keep that GPA up -- without paying another student to take your tests, that is.
