So if all 12 who were in the photo were charged then it would be fine?
You say it was a witch hunt but why would they be targeting him over everyone else? Was there some politics or because they needed their sacrificial lamb?
I agree that if you are going to charge one you have to charge all (generally speaking). I do think it is important to maintain our standard of proper prisoner handling.
If all 12 were punished back then, then yes it is not a witch hunt. Keep in mind the charges for the photo were not even brought up until after he won the murder charge. So they were looking for something trying to save face.
And 9/10 cases where someone was in a photo with a dead combatant, it's either NJP (clean toilets for a month, KP for a month, etc...) or 1 month pay. Never is it jail time, reduction in rank, or loss of trident. So more of a slap on the wrist. And in many of the cases, it was a 1 on 1 photo, not a group photo.
What's more alarming is how the Navy hacked Eddies attorneys computer, put him in isolated lock up for 8 months. Denied him to see his family and attorney on a regular basis and computer access. If it wasn't for his wife and her using social media, Eddie would be in jail and convicted of murder. Why is it a witch hunt? There is body cam video of the incident that shows him using his knife to remove the clothes of the combatant and giving first aid. So it's not like he was set free on a loop hole, but there is proof he did no wrong.
So if someone did complain, yes it gets investigated, but after the video is seen, the investigation is over. Most likely while he's still in the sand. So a short few weeks investigation at most.
