458 SOCOM Bolt gun

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I wasn't sure it belongs in the "Classifieds" because I'm not necessarily buying immediately.

I'm looking for a .458 SOCOM Bolt action gun, with Hawaii dealer prices. I do not want to build on an AR platform. Looking for the 458 on maybe a Remington 700 platform.

Might have to go custom.... Ruger makes  the American Ranch Rifle in 450 Bushmaster. I got one in 7.62x39 and it’s a real nice accurate rifle and the price is rite too. Dunno how the bushmaster compares with the 458 SOCOM though.... ;)

I was actually looking for something with ballistics in the middle of the 450 and 50 Beo. The 450 is a little too fast and the 50 has a little too much drop if I have to shoot something 200+ yards away. 450 is a nice caliber though!

Yeahhhh! The 458 SOCOM Hunter is pretty much what I was looking for. Too bad it's out of stock. Do you know if any dealers/shops have one? Slim chance, but might as well ask!

Apparently it just got introduced at shot show so they now have a big waiting list.  I doubt you'll find a dealer with one.  But you can ask the dealer to put you on the waiting list and see what happens.

Another manufacturer

Thanks for all the help! Now I know exactly what to ask for next time I go to the store. I got pretty lucky with a Keltec Sub2000 recently, so hopefully I'm still lucky!

The 458 socom uses a 308 family diameter bolt face. So that's the good part. The hard part with such a stubby cartridge and having a 308 bolt face is finding an action to fit it in to reliably feed, Similar to issues with the 6br family of cases used. In a traditional push-feed action ala rem 700, that's a lot of travel for such a short round before it enters the chamber. But it should be easy to put together, just use an old remington 700 with 308 bolt face, take off barrel, buy a remage barrel from PVA, bugholes, McGowen, X-caliber, etc, and then install via barrel nut / headspace gauges.

Another 45 caliber family to look at is the 45 raptor, not sure if its above the horsepower your looking for, but it looks substantially more appealing in a bolt gun than a 458 socom. Goodluck!
