I need an opinion bc I plan to buy 6 of them. I need them to match bc it will be easier for dual wielding (akimbo) and New York Reloads.

I usually recommend the Smith because the trigger from their custom shop is usually better than the Ruger. But the Ruger is a new product from their new custom shop so I would have to say until I can caress the trigger on both of them for me it is a wash. Both companies make great revolvers. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy either one. But I would really need to touch and feel the two guns before I would buy. Sorry, not what you wanted to hear. If the Ruger was not from their custom shop, for me it would be the Smith. Maybe try look for some reviews on both guns maybe that would help you decide.

From the specs on each, the Ruger is 2.7 oz heavier than the 929.  The other big difference is caliber.

Also, the Ruger has a Fiber Optic front sight.

The Smith has a titanium cylinder.  Ruger's is stainless steel.

Barrel lengths:  Ruger = 5.5", S&W = 6.5"

If none of that sways you, then consider the MSRP.  S&W saves you $340 (depending on what your retail difference comes out to be).

Multiply that, and you can buy your 6 S&Ws with enough cash left over to buy a Ruger AND a bunch of ammo, too.

(6 x $340 = $2,040)

hard to pick without actually shooting each one
I have a PC S&W 627 and the trigger and action is better than the normal S&W which is better than the Ruger GP100.  but i'm not sure how it is with the Ruger custom shop.
I've done the Wolff hammer/trigger spring kit and it does improve a lot on the GP100 trigger and action, and its easy to do.  there is a stronger distinction between the DA and where it reaches the SA on the Ruger vs the S&W.  but that doesn't necessarily make it better

that's a tough decision

thanks everyone for the feedback.  there don't seem to be a lot of options for 9mm revolvers.

yes you are correct, the model in question is the 929, but I was just looking through the OGC twitter and found that 986
may be something additional to consider
986 is L frame 7 rounds
929 is N frame 8 rounds
GP100 is sort of in between, but still a little heavier than the 929, 8 rounds

Yeah, I also found the 686 version in their feed, too, for $979.

So many to choose from.  I'm a .357 fan.  A 9mm revolver seems like a "downgrade".

For competition purposes, would shooting 38sp be a good option?

I'm not a competition shooter, so that's not my forte
Seems like low recoil, get back on target faster, maybe faster than 9mm. But slower velocity may not be advantageous if shooting steel and cant knock them over

Depends on the class you compete in.

My daughter went to the MPPL first timer shoot with me and shot her S&W 4" .38SP.  She took first place in her division:  Revolver.

Of course, she was the only one shooting a revolver!

A win is a win. Congratulations!  :shaka:

I think she won $5 as her prize.

One stage, the target setup used a variety of sliding,, turning and other movements.  She had to start over 6 times because the targets kept not working.  Her first attempt, everyone that could see her target was saying, "Did you see that? Almost every hit was a head shot!"  Around retry #4, she was so frustrated she started missing the targets completely.

Ali in all, a good learning experience.  That kind of thing happens, and you have to know how to deal with the frustration.
