Article leaves out a lot of info and is heavily slanted (shocking). Two buddies in NZ saying figures are something line 3-5% of guns turned in. Many places have requirements to get license with local LE, but many didn’t completely. Esp in areas like the north island where one buddy is. If I could post pics, I would post of where he recovered his guns after a relative buried them while he was away for a while. It was pretty hilarious. Guns caked with mud. Goober buried directly in the dirt and didn’t wrap with anything. 😝🤣

Might be fake newz with those claimed numbers, the 'ban' has been active for many months, it was enacted a week or so after the Christ Church shootings in March. Last public account only 500 weapons were turned in voluntarily, basically everyone was ignoring it. NZ has more than 2.5 million firearms in circulation. The president of the Mongrel Mob, NZ largest motorcycle club (i.e. gang, think Hells Angel's with face tattoos) said he would not allow any of his members to comply and was telling regular citizens not to as well. The MM also volunteered to provide free armed security to any Mosque or Church that requested it after the shooting. This might be a case of the Police / Lawmakers claiming success so as to not look weak and ineffective. If you dont want your weapons seized dont elect a Prime Minister who is unapologetically Communist.

The 2nd doesn't apply to assault weapons or any semi auto firearm.

Is has been a give for a long time. I think you’re right about the March timeframe. One NZ buddy was even unsure about posting about guns on a US forum. He said arrests were real. Comments on local news critical of the policies removed, etc.

The story about the buried guns was one of my buddy’s guns. He was out of town for a while and had a friend keep an eye on them. So they didn’t want to chance getting caught with them, so they buried them in my buddy’s yard.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12297360

Here are a couple of articles that a buddy in NZ sent me earlier this week about the failure of the NZ buyback drive/plan/whatevers. . .

BLUF: About 15% compliance of registered firearms.  No news of raids or actions being taken (at least not yet) to the owners of the remaining 85% of registered firearms.

Not sure if true, but my buddy mentioned where he lived, the "gun registration was lost by the police".  Also that gun registration varied greatly depending on the local police/sheriff.  I'd have to search for the article, but it mentioned estimates of total number of firearms in NZ vs registered, but it wasn't close.  He also reported that the first person caught with a banned gun was a police officer.  Not cop bashing in anyway here, but he seemed to have a good laugh about him apparently "not getting the memo".   ;D

Must suck to have to knock on a door with one big poly and face tatts answering.

Chick at 1:17 would throw down hard if someone came knocking on her door.

Not all are Once Were Warriors types.

My buddy is actually half Maori. His pops was a real deal badass ANZAC. His wife is full Maori. But he’s not all Maori-pride type. He’s more of a (I forget his term for non-Maori, similar to haole).
